Astro turfing a lawn should be illegal...hideous stuff and in the same league as paving over your front garden to accommodate 80 hundred cars when you only own two! Why!? However, there are circumstances where I can understand it...shaded gardens where grass will simply not take/survive for example. Astro/fake stuff should only ever be a last resort but unfortunately some people think it's preferential to a lawn....absolutely mental and sad imho.

It works for some I suppose. The bigger issue is people opting for Hard Surfaces instead of Soft. Doesn't take a genius scientist to predict the consequences.

You get weeds, drainage issues, hygiene issues, temperature issues and animal shit and pee on ordinary lawns.

However the difference with an artificial lawn is that is properly installed is that drainage issues are no worse and often better.

Weeds do not take hold as they cannot go through the backing material, so airborne ones can simply brushed away, and ones emerging from the soil cannot penetrate (weed maintenance is only an issue at the edges of the artificial lawn which can easily be dealt with).

A good quality artificial lawn is UV safe, so no discolouring can occur in extreme temperatures. The only issue in these circumstances is that the 'grass' will be hot to touch.

As for pet and wildlife mess. This can be is one of the best selling points, as it is entirely safe from the effects that such mess has on normal lawns and can simply washed away and detergent used where neccessary. In addition lawns being wrecked in wet conditions with dogs running over them and leaving muddy patches is totally taken away on an artificial lawn.

I totally go with the environmental concerns, as I have already stated, however there are other issues that make people consider an artificial lawn.

Not sure what problems you see happening after 2 years with a well installed artificial grass that is well maintained. Personally I cannot think of any.

Though I do agree with environmental issues being raised over ecosystems, and where people have the right environment and the time to maintain a lawn, I think they should.

However other factors can come into play that make an artificial lawn the preferred solution for many.
Wish I knew how to attach pictures. I'd put the picture of your easigrass covered company car on here

Surely a real garden is for using, rather than looking at ? That a garden which bears the scars of family bar-b-q's, trampolines and various other 'abuses' is actually a thing of true beauty ? Something that memories are formed of ? A garden that invokes nostalgia rather than just some sterile looking uniformity of green ?

Don't start me on trampolines. I have no issue with them per se but the bloody constant noise that seems to accompany their usage.

LOL.

A garden should be a place of noise. Of chatter. Of laughter. Better a bunch of noisy kids, bouncing about than them sitting around a play-station, in grim silence, as they chop up cyber prostitutes or what ever passes for gaming entertainment these days.

No problem with kids having fun. But 7.00am on a Sunday is too early and a whole afternoon of noise is inconsiderate.

Having a trampoline does not mean one can ignore the fact that we live cheek by jowl. Also, I am sure my neighbours would take issue if my kids had music on at the same decibel level for four hours.

If it was every afternoon I would agree but how often does this happen ?

Best noise in the world. English people are the most miserable bastards when it comes to kids having fun and making a bit of noise. And yes, I do say English people. Foreign's, for all their many and varied faults, don't seem to be so precious when it comes to such things.

Trampolines are a way for some parents here to abdicate responsibility.

You go to a restaurant abroad and you will find that kids there are far better behaved. And they aren't simply given ipads/phones to keep them quiet. They are engaged as part of the table.
