HMMM

Some very bitter and twisted people out there me thinks I work for one of the high streets leading recruitment consultancies, and although every now and then some shady practices go on I would say that on the whole the majority of people that work within the industry are a decent bunch trying to make a decent living.

We exist because you guys need jobs and without us, most of you would struggle to find work

It is extremely unfair and libellous to call us tossers, w@nkers whatever, and I find such comments extremely hurtful.

I suppose you people slagging us off do not like traffic wardens for keeping London streets running, estate agents for putting a roof over your heads, and the police for keeping law on our streets.

We are an easy target, but having a go at us is a cheap and low shot, and whilst there is a demand for us, we are going to stay around!!!

I dunno; recruitment consultants keep offering positions, I send in my CV and then the buggers don't call me back.

Yeah, then your account dept return the invoice unpaid because you haven't given them an order number. It then takes minimum ten calls to you over several weeks to get one.

F***** Clients

I have to say that despite having loads of recruitment consultants as clients over the years, i never ever once used the services of an agency in order to get a job. Hence the assertion that if they didnt exist we'd all be fecked is a bit of a nonsense. It really does depend what industry you are in, as well as if you can be arsed to take the time to look for yourself rather than leave it all to someone to initially sell you on your behalf.

For a company, using an agency has many benefits these days as there are so many rules and regulations regarding employment law (working time directive etc). Therefore, many companies will ONLY employ people through an agency to avoid the extra responsibilites and rules associated with employing people.

Some of the clients we have would actually be fecked if there were no agencies (large as well as small).

Granted if a company is too small to employ HR people then maybe it works better for them, but often I got the impression that even some of the larger companies used agencies, not because of the expertise, but because it wasn't their personal money they were spending and it took a load of work off their plate. Laziness in other words. In some case, not all by any means.

My last three positions have all been in big companies and my role has not been advertised to the public but gone out to agencies.
