E-cigs & smoking in the ground
Got nabbed by a steward last night for using my e-cig in the ground. I'm aware of the PL & FL regulation which bans e-cigs in stadia (ridiculous rule, but there y'go), but how is it that people are allowed to smoke actual fags inside the stadium, albeit in an outside area?
I thought smoking was banned anywhere within the stadium boundaries, even in outside areas. How does the club get away with this, while enforcing the ban on e-cigs, which are massively less harmful than real ones, and are helping many people (like me) give up using deadly tobacco? I know there was a thread on this in 'Questions to CPFC2010', but that appears defunct, and I couldn't find one on the same topic in here or GCC. Mods, please feel free to merge if there is another thread dealing with this issue, thanks.

I think E-cigs are not allowed in the ground as it's confusing to see if they are the real thing or not. These days with vapers I struggle to see how as they look nothing like cigarettes!

Over the past few months people smoking in their seats in the ground has become more and more common.
At Leicester away I was feeling incredibly ill and had a cloud of smoke in my face the whole match, I could barely breathe until I left the ground

You mean actually smoking rather than vaping? If so they should be reported as it's not only illegal, but harmful to those around them too.

If you ever went in The old Alliance Pub by the clock tower before the smoking ban came in, you'd know there could never be a more harmful place for those around smokers. However, we survived to tell the tale. Maybe this passive smoking thing is a bit of a myth. Pubs just smell of farts, stale beer and cheap aftershave these days.

Yer does seem to be a free for all at away games. I dont smoke and Can't say I'm that bothered as I've been going since a child when smoking wad allowed. Seems stupid that the toilets at away games have become a smoking area when the club doesn't provide and area for smokers. Very frustrating and makes queues worse. I'm glad that at home games an unofficial area means this doesn't happen.

Seth, it's perfectly possible to smoke an e-cig in a concealed manner that no-one will notice you.
Agreed it's a daft, stupid and counter-productive rule : not hard for stewards to see it's not a real cigarette : you just need to shove the tip in your face!

People smoke at Selhurst? Wow. That's illegal! I think if people are caught smoking they should have their season ticket suspended, and if they want it reactivate reactivated they have to compensate everyone in their stand £5 each. A handful of change will do. I'm pretty sure there is lots of that kicking about in the Holmesdale

I'm sure no one will mind if you go and puff your e-cig along with the others in the 'outside smoking area'

Why would I want to do that when I'm not bothering anyone, when my colleagues have no idea I'm using it and I'm not smoking?

But the fact is, you shouldn't have to conceal it. In fact, you should make it more apparent that it's a vape and not a actual cigarette. Stewards should certainly not throw you out for it and if anything, apologise for the mix up in thinking it's a real cigarette if they do grab you. |

What next, chucking people out for breathing once they've taken a gulp of hot tea/coffee/hot choc etc.
The stewards should be educated that what is being projected from the mouth is water vapour, not tobacco burning smoke. |
