Still think the first XI is weaker. But we will finish higher than last season. Hopefully 6th or 7th

In fairness, you take Cabaye out the side and on paper, it's weaker. However, that's not to say the team won't perform better as a unit without him in it.

We can't judge our first X1 against last season until we see how the new signings fit in and perform.

Everyone will have their own view of the window but when you look at that list you cant fail but to be impressed. Ok not spectacular in money spent but pretty solid deals done for great value, also we must never forget this is CPFC with its financial limitations but in fairness to SP, the Zaha contract showed boldness and are willing to move in the right direction.
Yes i was pleased.

Meyer will be better than cabaye. Kouyate not Bette than rlc. Ayew better than Sako.

Not sure I agree about Ayew being better than Sako; however, Meyer will be an adequate replacement for Cabaye, and we've signed some excellent squad players. Squad is a lot stronger than last season.

BUT the first XI is still weaker. Anyone care to argue the opposite post the Liverpool match after crashing back to reality?

Whilst I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you that the first 11 is weaker. It’s a bit unfair to gauge that game last night as to how well our transfer window was. We played against arguably the 2nd best team in the division and essentially lost by a dodgy pen - the last goal is irrelevant and we played with 10 men for the last 20 minutes of the match. Remember, we also lost home and away to Liverpool last season with Yo and RLC here.

Overly dramtic. We lost to them last season, so hardly a 'crash' back to 'reality' whatever that part means.

And actually of course, we lost to Liverpool last season with a virtually similar team, only Cabaye and Kelly were changes. So hardly evidence last night that the XI is weaker.

How about we actually wait and see if the new signings will come into the first 11 before making that judgement? Well, Meyer for one is guaranteed.

I would say that we blindingly obviously miss not having Cabaye and RLC in that midfield. Whether the new signings are currently, or will be potentially, better than them is up for debate.

I would also add that free transfers in the form of Samir Nasri, Yaya Toure and others are still available if the club decides we didn't do quite enough business to replace them during the transfer window. Obviously Meyer is the interesting 'potential'. We did good business with Kouyate hopefully too.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

(Obviously dependant on a fringe player leaving though).

And what about now? Does anyone still think our first XI is stronger than last season? (We got a draw last season with RLC and Cabaye at Vicarage Rd in April IIRC.)

Need a few weeks yet to see who the best first 11 is and then how they perform. At the moment, I'd have all three of the outfield players starting, but so far we've only had a couple of impressive camoes from one of them - too early to tell.

I'd eventually like to see...

Guaita
AWB Tomkins Sakho PvA
Milivojevic
Kouyate Meyer
Townsend Ayew Zaha

The Henn doesn't deserved to be dropped just yet and Kouyate and Luka might be better swapped, but that is potentially as good a team as last season in my eyes.

Not sure of the relevance. We were on the up towards the end of last season and they were struggling and it still ended 0-0. We had 1 shot on target compared to 3 yesterday and possibly should have been leading at half time.

We normally start a campaign slowly and that is one of our problems not who is in the team.

Being a Palace fan it's only natural to have negative thoughts. The "even if Wilf gets hurt" comment is the one that starts alarm bells ringing for me, especially as we didn't sign any back up.

The main problem in the summer was our inability to sell any players for a decent fee. With the money available it was a pretty good window but not selling Benteke and replacing him with a more mobile forward was always going to be our Achilles heel for this season.
