Our relative's Palace Ladies side won yesterday, reaching the final of the Surrey Cup. Would I be right in thinking that there are various teams, for different age groups? I think my wife's niece is 16. She scored the winning goal (a penalty in the last minute of injury time) which got them through to the final.

Yep, we have teams at all age groups from Under 9 through to Senior level; some age groups have two sides. In total, around 230 players playing throughout the club

Was going to come down and cover the game, and get some images. Wish I had now. Have been asked by the club in the past to cover matches. But they didn't ask this time which is a shame.

Will try and make the next match.

Thank you for clearing that up Dave. I spoke to her Mum earlier and she mentioned that her age group has two sides, and both reached the finals yesterday afternoon. Well done for that

Well, the ladies club wouldn't have been high on the priority list of things that need urgent funding when CPFC2010 came in; hopefully with the club in a much more stronger position (especially if we retain our Premier League status), this might change. And the funding required by the club would be minimal compared to the kind of money the club is receiving being in the Premier League.

The club self-funds itself thorough local sponsorship and players membership fees. All of that money goes straight back into the club on facilities for training and matches, and kits for the players.

If you want a detailed resume of how it all operates, where the funding comes from etc, then click on this link To view the link you have to Register or Login and then click on "Palace Ladies Chat pre Stoke".

It's a entertaining interview with their Chairman, Richard Stokes, and one of their star players, Jade Davenport

Has there been discussions about the owners about this? It would be great to see us in the top division.

See you there - might only be 10 mins from my front door by then, too.

Great to see the ladies doing so well. Looking forward to the Pompey match, especially with a visit to Westow House for a few jars beforehand.

I'll listen to that Palace Radio link at some point to educate myself on the finances; there is undoubtedly more we could do to help. If entrance is free again for the Pompey match, perhaps a quick whip round of those in attendance - a couple of quid each would buy a new kit for two or three of the teams?

I didn't know anything about this. When I heard Palace songs I wondered what the hell was going on. In my mind it was either:
a) a last minute unannounced friendly played at the NSC.
b) someone nearby who for some reason has a collection of Palace songs and plays them back in the comfort of his own home.
c) (God forbid) some sort of HF singing practice session.
d) my imagination.
I don't think we should let the Crystal Palace NIMBY's see this!

I have never been so nervous walking out onto a pitch before! Walking out with our U10s as mascots seeing so many people there supporting us and the Holmesdale Fanatics cheering and singing not just then but throughout the whole game.

As an 18 year old coming up through all of the youth teams with a few of my team mates it was so overwhelming to think we had come so far already. I remember thinking about playing in big FA cup games with the youth teams. And now being part of the best Crystal Palace Ladies side the club has ever seen. Although I felt very nervous our experienced older girls made us feel so comfortable and reassured to just go out and do what they know we can do and put on a show and we did just that! The thing with our team is although we have a few very talented experienced and talented younger players we all have a team spirit that we all respect and work hard together as a team and we proved that yesterday against Derby.

I have played under Dean (Davenport) as a manager for six or seven years and all of his and our hard work is really beginning to pay off. Before the game he was getting into our heads that we are not the underdogs and that we really could go out and get a result and thats what we did. Although the game was very hard work we stuck to what we know best and although they had some very good chances that we dealt with I think we deserved the win not just with the quality we showed all over the pitch but the hard work and dedication put in by everyone.

We as a team our over the moon with all of the support we have received from all of the CPFC fans, Holmesdale Fanatics and everyone else. We are buzzing and ready to face Portsmouth and feel that if we play how we know we can we can get a result and find ourselves in the Quarter Final of the women’s FA cup. The future is looking very bright for us at Crystal Palace Ladies and I am honoured to be a part of this amazing club and look forward to the day we step out for our first women’s Super League game because I feel that this is where the club should be.

Do you help run the ladies team? Where do they train etc?

My girlfriend wants a new side next season. Shes played in the Ladies Prem for a couple of sides but wants something a bit less demanding. Although Palace look like they are on the up!

Most ladies sides arent funded by clubs and literially just use the name.
