Yeah, he was released by Leicester in the summer, then joined Nuneaton but left them earlier this month. Hasn't played for us before so suspect he is on trial.

As the first team trained there for a season under Coppell when we had Forsell on loan, I don't suppose the Academy lads should be too unhappy. |

As of half-time Palace's U18s were hammering Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 in a rearranged game - at home I think. Sam Woods, Bryce Hossana and Levi Lumeka (2) scored. Lumeka has scored four in his last three games now. Bringing his phenomenal goalscoring record from the 16s last season into the 18s it seems.
Edit: now 5-1 after Andre Coker scores a penalty

Forgot his name... think he only made one or two under21 appearances last year, and a midfielder. Edit: Flannagan is the one i was thinking of..

He's just turned 16. He's staying, hasn't played much this season because he's been away with Ireland u17s. Not sure what the line up was today so don't know if he was involved. I did a story on him not too long ago - search his name and it's on the last page of the thread (Flanagan). England are keeping tabs on him, but I think he's a little way away from a tug-of-war, although it's possible in the future.

U18s went down 3-1 at home to Millwall today. Weather was absolutely horrendous, very windy and wet. Wasn't a good performance from Palace who never really turned up. Lumeka did well in parts, as did Lokilo. Hogan came on in the second half and really made a difference, shored things up well in the midfield and then late on played a neat one-two with Andrews and finished superbly. By far the best move of the game from either side.
Line-up was: Pain; Hosannah, Woods, Jones, Akiotu; Lokilo (Coker 59), Phillips (Hogan 45), Dreher, Lumeka; Andrews; Fundi (Flanagan 62) Kian Flanagan came on and he's bulked up a bit - in a good way - and you could immediately see his ability. There was an Ireland scout there, presumably for him. The other player who impressed me was Bryce Hosannah, looked tidy at RB and was the best of the defenders. This, however, is not so good. The pitch they have to play on:

Pitch is a nightmare. At one point the palace RB took a throw in but it was another white line inside the current one from a previous pitch!!

Yeah, they've moved it since the first game they played there for some reason. The ball almost stopped dead as soon as it hit the ground, was hard to control. Dreadful pitch, how are these young players meant to reach their potential if they have to play on that every other week.

I have no idea, academy totally de-prioritised. Also, that's what it looks like after they took until end September to play on it.

Our facilities at AFC Wimbledon are much better than that! And we are Category 3.

Can I ask a question of the experts on here re academy - how many "pitches" are there at Beckenham training ground and why can't they put aside 1 pitch for the Under 18 team ??

No idea on the second question, I assume there's a good reason though.

There are 2 full size but u11 and 13 or u12 and u14 will play at home at same time on an eleven-a-side pitch so always in use. However, it's not overuse that's the issue it was poor from first time it was used in late Sept (plus there's a massive slope on it)

Sorry just realised I was talking about goals but if you're talking about TG, same answer as historically only had two for youth teams

A guy I know who used to work for the Academy said the exact same before leaving. Bizarrely, after getting lots of extra money for being part of the greed league, it's become a massive after-thought.

I was asking about TG but thanks to all for replies still seems strange that a pitch can't be "reserved" for U 18

IMO we need to either invest heavily and have a top notch academy attracting thE best youngest, who have a good chance of making the first team - or just scrap it completely. Doing it half heartedly will just be a drain on resources as all we'll be doing is coaching and investing in average players who will go onto have careers in the lower leagues at best. |

U18s currently leading Brentford 1-0 away.
Not there myself but line-up is as follows (with one other player) Pain; Sturgess, Jordan (U16), Jones, Hosannah; Lumeka, Hogan, Flanagan, Joseph (U16), Coker I'm guessing Fundi is the 11th man as he's a striker and none of the others are. Good to see Flanagan starting for the first time in a while. No Luke Dreher suggests he will play against Charlton in the U21 game on Monday, and Sturgess playing 18s with Akiotu not involved suggests Akiotu will be the U21 LB on Monday too.
