He'll do well for us.
The chance that hit the post, not much more he could with it than beat the defender to the ball. Give him time, worked his socks off and did tire towards the end

Give the kid a chance ffs.
First start in a new team and in a knackering 4-5-1 formation, chasing shadows against 4 international defenders yet still nearly scored. |

Yeap his play around the box was excellent, his touch and link up play is something we lack with Murray in the side. However there are other aspects of his game he really needs to improve massively if he is to live up to his potential, which hopefully he will. Last edited by Billyd; 16-08-2015 at 06:17 PM. |

Looked ok. Unlucky with the shot that hit the woodwork.

He worked hard and tried, but to be honest needs help alongside if we are to see the best in him, hence why I feel we need to consider playing Bamford off him to give our attack more threat. Connor Wickham's main attributes is he is very much a physical player that lacks subtly, so will always struggle to open up defences with deft touches, other than in a robust way.
My concerns are he is Not a prolific scorer, and as we lack a midfield that wades in with goals may create a problem long term, so do need the option of having either Bamford OR Gayle to make our attack more potent, this may not be a formation that appeals as a starter, but sometimes is necessary to change a rigid formation if it is not being effective. Of course this is very early season to make any judgement as he will improve in time when more settled and players form a better understanding. But for the Arsenal game I was baffled as to why Murray with his crafty ability to unsettle defences as he did last season against Arsenal did not start, as was also suggested by Thiery Henry as being a better and more dangerous option. I reserve judgement until he has played a minimum of a Dozen games at the very least. |

I thought he was poor. Got bullied by the arsenal back four. Allowed them to push up on us. Needed mutch to come on and win headers for him. Needs ball to feet to be effective and only did that for about five minutes.
Needs masses of work for the way that we play.

I thought he did very well and he was 2 inches away from putting us 2-1 up yet had the Sky commentators slagging him off saying he really should be scoring those. Give the lad a chance he ran his bollocks off for us today and did so many good things. Home debut against a big club with probable lack of confidence. Bring back Aylott.

Can't believe people writing him off after today. Thought he was actually very good. Won a lot in the air but the runners weren't reading his headers, also some really great awareness when it came to holding up/passing to wingers. Looks rusty in front of goal and needs more match fitness but there's a good player there for sure. Like him.

Played well today, I was impressed..good touches, headers held up ball well and unlucky not to score with the shot off the post...early days but good signs certainly nowhere near as bad as some clueless arseholes are making out

I hope you're joking. One game in?
He did ok, unlucky not to score, won a lot in the air, some excellent lay offs, one of which we scored from. What he needs to learn off Murray is how to get in the bloody middle after winning it out wide. Time will tell if he can do it but lots of positives.
