I realise he's probably had a bit more time on the ball than he'll get in the PL, but his crossing for the most part has been absolutely superb recently. Benteke and Tomkins must be looking forward to this coming season, with the former looking more confident than he has done for a long time (even in his post match interview he seemed much more upbeat). I'm confident Townsend is going to have a blinder this year.

Why doesn't Andros score more goals? McArthur gets them, PVA scores, even Schlupp's grabbed a couple later, but Andros hasn't scored for ages has he? I can think of a few half decent long range efforts but never a poacher's chance, he's not even missed those, he doesn't get into those positions.

I get that he's a creator, but it'd be nice to see him attacking those low drilled crosses that Wilf and PVA love.

No finishing touch. Doesn't have an accurate shot and makes poor decisions in from of goal, like shooting from hopeless ranges. He also needs a bit of time on the ball and that makes defenders close him down. Has all the tools to score plenty but needs to get into good positions more

He used it all up against West Brom. Now it’s impossible to hit a cow’s glutes with a double bass.

It’s funny as cutting in and shooting (albeit inconsistent shots) was his USP at Spurs. Thought he has more pace then too.

He's very poor in front of goal - no cutting edge at all. Considering the advanced position he plays he should be getting 8-10 goals per season. He's a good player who works tremendously hard and it's great to have him in our team but he's limited when it comes to creating and scoring. It's why he'll never play for a so-called big club again imo.

4th equal most assists(7) outside the top six last season, but limited in creating?

He’s a very different player from the one I thought we bought. An excellent team player, tireless and neat and precise in possession. If he gets into more goal scoring positions and contributes 5-10 goals a year he will become the complete package.

Is that true? Doesn't sound like many to be fourth highest.

Don't get me wrong, I like him a lot and would always play him but I don't think he's particularly effective when it comes to scoring and creating. Good player though.

Mahrez -10 (now a top 6 player)
Gudmundsson and Gross - 8
Cresswell, Brunt, Albrighton, Shaquiri and Townsend - 7

Benteke was joint 14th (outside the tops 6) for assists last year.

Interesting list of players there - no one you would say is particularly great bar Mahrez maybe.

If Townsend could add goals to his game then he would be some player. But I don't think he's ever scored goals in his career.

That's just not correct though is it? He scored 3 times in 50 games for spurs. Less as a ratio than for us. He had a very slight purple patch at Newcastle, but he only played a dozen games for them. Other than that he has never been a regular scorer. Which he should be.

Everything you have said about AT is correct, regardless of his assists he needs to add goals to his game to make his play more complete, hence why i think over the next few weeks his position could well be under threat by Ayew due to the goals he adds.
This is what is making WZ stand out even more these days, he is now adding an end product to his game which will make him not just a good player but an outstanding one. Like yourself i am also a fan of AT but he does need to add that extra ingredient that is now expected of a "forward" player in the modern game.

Yep, and I hope that having genuine competition for the first time will spur him on in terms of scoring goals. Saying all that, despite him not scoring goals I would still play him given his all round contribution to the team is so important.

If Andros keeps doing what he's doing then I'm happy. Top team player who puts in 100% every game.

Agree. Reading some of the comments I thought I was on the jordan Mutch thread. If he adds a few goals to his game he's be top class not just very good. Andros that is not Jordan

Unless he changes his game massively, Andros is never going to score regularly for us - if you look at where he takes his shots from (can see at this link To view the link you have to Register or Login ), then you can see it's generally always long shots.

He barely ever gets into good shooting positions, just doesn't seem to have the knack for it. He has started to shake his habit of ridiculous attempts from 35 yards though which is good.

On the creative side, I think he is pretty strong for us and perfect if we are ever going to get the best out of Benteke. I feel like he brings something very different to the team, he's a great crosser while the rest of our attackers (especially left side) are more passers. According to that Understat website, he had the best 'expected assists' per game outside the top 6 for chances created in open play. I.e. he was creating a lot of good quality chances (most of them being missed by Benteke!)
