If you see the start of the goal here
To view the link you have to Register or Login PVA is out of position, he is too high and too wide, the gap between him and Delaney is too much Under Pulis for example the left back would have been tucked in narrower |

Aaah Pulis. Say what you want. He is a proper coach. Gets on with what he has and makes a decent fist of it.
I naively thought BFS was similar |

Don't be ridiculous. The OP never goes to games but knows far more than anyone in the known universe about anything football-related (he was once almost a reserve for Harchester United's special needs under-13s).

A lot depends on how they have agreed to setup and cover etc. but my questions would be more about - why had Tomkins followed Crouch right out to the wing without passing him onto Luka or without Luka dropping in behind him. The gap he left between him and Damo made no sense and if Crouch wants to play being a winger, let him for FFS - Allen made the run from the wing to score the goal neither midfielder attempted to follow him - not totally sure where macca was but if he was the deep left sided midfielder (it was difficult to tell at times then he should have been in between PVA and where the ball was played in if the other 2 were out wide - Damo didn't seem to see the danger of Allen until it was passed to him which was too late. Another yard forward would have made a huge difference All of the above may have legitimate answers but are probably more significant than PVA's positioning. I don't blame Henn too much for this one but he had also shuffled right back onto his line and probably should have been further forward.

For me though Martin the move starts with PVA out of position
He encourages the run inside which he does track BUT its almost too late then, the winger has comfortable posession in our penalty area, his positioning allowed them to get behind us If he was narrow and covering his CB's the ball wouldnt have been on He should have really been about the red circle is Last edited by maestro; 12-02-2017 at 11:09 PM. |

He was 'out of position' because we were in possession on the other side of the pitch and he was heading forward to support our impending attack. Of course, we gave away the ball cheaply, were unable to get it back and he had to back peddle. As noted, he then did what we would expect him to do. Unfortunately, none of his team mates did.

Give it another 3 before he is known as Van Arsehole on these boards.
The three after that they will be saying the deal was a typical big Sam move, overpaying for a player he knows and all the old panorama stuff will be dragged up. 3 after that he will be brilliant PVA for a week or two. Nature of this place. |

FFS is this pranny still banging the same drum. Give it up Maestro and get yourself out a bit because repeating the point over and over again will not get everybody to agree with your petty agendas.

Have any of you played the game at any sort of level as it makes me wonder with some of the comments on here . I can tell you that Hennessy is not good enough although I am not blaming him yesterday but we were playing generally a lot better with Steve in goal . Speroni was player of the year for many years in a row and would do a far better job than Hennessy even now . Playing for Wales means nothing I mean Ledley proves that they are championship players the pair of them and everyone knows that . I think against Sunderland Hennessy was fouled for their first goal but was so weak for a giant of a man and should easily have held that ball and Tomkins miss at 0.1 and also against West Ham were unforgivable imho .

Agree that PVA was too wide, but arguably the worst bit about his defending was his lack of physical strength with the runner.
As you can see from the photo also, Allen has placed himself behind Luka and Puncheon with both of them heading out to press the ball. Due to this, Allen becomes Delaneys man and looking at the head start he gets, should have been able to work this out
