Yet another end of the season feeling where we say right we will surely move on now. 3 sodding years I've been saying that. Parish has messed up royally and got away with it simple as. Worst ever start by a premiership side. we have spent £30m twice on two players that are vastly over priced. Another two players apparently he signed this recent transfer window..more money down the drain. He HAS to step away from all footballing decisions simple as. We have numerous players out of contract and we will be in our third and final year of FFP. Belts need to be tightened and unless we get a decent offer for Benteke we will struggle to get decent players in and also keep hold of Tomkins and Luka...

Biggest FU season so far, which could easily or even likely get worse with relegation. Anyone thinking we are close to being safe are deluded.

Really?

Townsend works very hard and creates space for others
Sakho was one of the key reasons Palace were not relegated last year
Benteke has struggled quite a bit this season but where would Palace have been without him last season?...he's still relatively young and at least has the potential to return to form.

Every team brings in transfers that work and do not work. To be fair, and with proper perspective, I think Palace have done relatively well.

The team's massive and unlikely injury struggles are largely to blame (and hiring FDB!). Tomkins, Dann, PVA and McArthur were good pieces of business. Mutch and others not so much.

You are correct that bringing in academy players and signings from abroad like Luka are also vital.

It's always a mixture.

If Palace can have a "normal" amount of injuries next season under the guidance of a stable manager, that will be a fairer test. The board deserves a fairer test.

In your opening post you say has he played a blinder and then perhaps he has got away with it. Yeah he may well get away with it, but would never describe it as playing a blinder!

Avoid signing players with CL/International pedigree?

Which players from the Championship are you referring to? You realise these clubs want £20M Plus for anything that looks PL quality

If you think it’s possible to “move on” and push for mid-table security or better then you haven’t understood what the premier league has become. No one outside of the top six can feel comfortable about their next season. The bottom three clubs are all what you might have considered established clubs with seemingly strong squads.

Cabaye and Townsend have been excellent for us and I bet you wasn’t moaning about Benteke and Sakho last season

Yeah, I mean imagine having signed the players we needed this season and finishing 10th in the league. A real blinder to avoid that.

A slightly premature review of this season would probably conclude that Parish has made some good decisions but also number of others that have cost us points. Zaha and Sahko signings were good (so long as Sahko can stay fit long term). I like the Sorloth transfer. However, the failure to bring in a keeper and a good forward in the summer along with the decision to bring in FdB undoubtedly cost us a lot of points, these were poor decisions. This required a shameful, if necessary, sacking of the manager after 4 games and the worst start in PL history. Hodgsons availability might have sped up FdB's departure and Parish should get credit for that.

However, if you fail to prepare sufficiently you are hostage to fortune and our injury crisis might well have relegated us given our poor start and lack of depth in some area's. Roy and Zaha are the main reasons it probably has not (and Parish is the single most important reason they're both at the club). with that in mind, decisions made in previous seasons have given us a squad that can cope with considerable adversity (surely no other PL team has faced what we faced this season). Parish deserves credit for putting together a good squad with the exeption of Forward and GK. Our squad is now almost entirely devoid of the Championship team which got us promoted (Jedinack, Bolasie, Murrey) and the PL team from our first two seasons (Chamack, Gayle, Ledley). Its also the strongest PL squad we've had with recent signings such as Luka, PVA, Townsend and Tomkins proving to have been good transfers.
