Unfortunately, the manager seemed to think so too.

Bit disappointed that we start the season against last year's playoff winners didn't work well for us last year and they are always boosted early on having the momentum. It quickly fades which is why it's always better to play them 4 or 5 games in. But as the plan is to win all of our games this year, no worries
(Trying to think about other promoted clubs we played in their first match but can only think of Norwich who we beat at their place (I think with a bit of help from the ref?). Big thing this year is to get points/goals on the board early on. If we start that sort of negative run again nerves will quickly build.

Easy finish.
Didn't know they were out today. |

Looks fine to me... if we don't have a slow start in August, ie cock up against Fulham and then the likely loss to Liverpool, we should be in for an enjoyable season.

So since the 2013 promotion, we’ve been placed against a promoted side 50% of the time.

Whats the deal with Friday night games this season?
And yes we did lose to Luton in those circumstances

And we’ve got Preston in the cup followed by Man City in round four.

Disappointed to start the season against Fulham. Promoted teams always seem to start the season well before fading away. Would happily settle for a draw there.

Not an easy one to start with given their momentum coming off the play off win and their first game back in the Prem but we DO have better players. If we approach it right we'll win there.
Not taking into account changes this summer in players coming in or out of either club (Guaita excepted), if we go there with this team I can't see us losing - Guaita, Tomkins, Sakho, Wan-Bissaka, van Aanholt, Milivojevic, Cabaye, McArthur, Townsend, Zaha, Benteke This'll bite me on the ass!!

I did not want a promoted team first up, but it could have been worse.
A local London derby against a very winnable team must please the club especially Roy into giving us a winning start, then we have a cracker at home to get everybody inc players in the mood early on, followed by Watford could provide us with the opportunity of Six points. Then with a very sympathetic September fixture list gives us a great opportunity to put those horrors of last seasons start a distant memory, and plan for a comfortable mid table position. |

And Southampton away, always a good day out but the league games are always bloody midweek these days , why, must be a reason?

I think people are worrying a bit too much about Fulham being our first game. Yes we got beat against Huddersfield last year but we were a total shambles proven by the fact that our manager was sacked four games later. If you look to the first game of the season against Norwich in 2014 we won that comfortably because we weathered the inevitable storm in the first half an hour and our class and experience shone through when their energy levels dropped. Everton did exactly the same to us in 2004.
