Fifield is saying Ayew is still very much on the agenda which would cover all across the front line. Also saying that Reidewald is the one likely to be sold - with maybe Williams/Souare as well - but personally not sure on Souare leaving. Mentions fringe players being loaned after Thursday (presume that is Kai Kai & Innis)

Yes - I posted the original article! Souare & Williams (and Kai Kai & Innis to be fair) are not going to attract PL interest so while they may be sold to EFL teams before Thursday (and I would say that is unlikely without incomings at least in JW's case) they would have the option of an EFL loan until the end of the month.
As for Jairo - I actually think it would be a sale although Dom mentions loan - Newcastle for example have filled their two loan spots already. I also think that to raise the portion of the funds needed for Ayew it would have to be him being sold.

I can see us offering Williams as a part in an Ayew deal and Kaikai as makeweight if they are going for Watkins.
Jairo will probably go back abroad, but it should be a hectic couple of days for Parish and Freedman

The Premier League rules on U21 players is:
"An Under 21 player is defined as one who is under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences. For the 2010/11 campaign Under 21 players will have been born on or after 1st January 1989." On the 1st January 2018 Max was 22 (he will be 23 on the 18th Sep.) so he will take up a spot in the squad.

Why do people want rid of Riedewald ? He isn't even 22 yet, he could turn into a quality player. We've only really got Luka, McArthur, Schlupp proven so far at Palace. The two new players we don't know how they well they will workout. Willians staying injury free and being good enough is a doubt and Puncheon had lost it before getting injured.

As a 25 it isn’t great – players like Williams and Kai Kai shouldn’t be anywhere near a PL squad but there is a solid match day squad there for sure.

Harsh on Joniesta. When fit he's easily PL standard.

I'm not sure you could say easily, he's never been able to prove it.

He's got the quality, he did show that for Wales in the Euros. Just needs to be fit.

I disagree. If you pay fees and wages for 25 players on our cash flow then you spread yourself too thin. 3 or 4 of the 25 have to be squad players on lowish wages or wages we are already committed to and who play in an emergency. We only have 38 league games plus 4 - 7 Cup ties depending on who we draw. 18 players would suffice if we are lucky with injuries, so we only need to add to the current squad where it improves the match day squad of 18-20 players.

If we were to look at it as 2 teams of 11, when all fit.
Guaita Wan-Bissaka - Tomkins - Sakho - van Aanholt Milivojevic Kouyate - Meyer Zaha - Benteke - Townsend Hennessey Ward - Dann - Kelly - Schlupp Puncheon - McArthur - Riedewald - Williams Sorloth - Wickham Speroni, Iniss, Kaikai in reserve along with youth players such as Woods, Kirby, Daly as well. Personally I think we should offload Souare on loan. If someone like Ayew, RLC or Bolasie were to come in then I think Puncheon should be the man to be offloaded rather than Riedewald. But Riedewald would bring in more money I imagine. But if no more business we’re to be completed, then this would be an excellent window and we’d have a really good squad in my opinion. You’ve got to remember that that second XI is only about half way to what we would have played in the FA Cup final! Last edited by Palace43; 07-08-2018 at 07:36 PM. |

A total of 25 is not the real issue though. Most clubs play around 18-20 players max in a season, the rest, like Speroni, Williams, Souare, Puncheon, and, currently but probably not after Thursday, Kai Kai & Innis, are emergency cover players. No club has 25 top line first team ready players, and based on 18-20, we are the strongest we have been since promotion.

I'm guessing that since the window ends earlier, we are leaving loan business for the last few weeks of August? Makes sense.
