Yes great read CP-RJW. Thanks a lot.
You say you were there for work experience. Are you looking to get into journalism?

Yep, that’s what I’ll be studying at Sheffield for the next three years.

All the very best with that. Sure you’ll do well and have a great time to boot. Hopefully one of the Sheffield clubs will get promoted and you’ll get to see the Palace come to town.

Thanks very much, and hopefully one gets promoted, but no matter what I’m going to catch some local games. Just haven’t decided on whether to go with the blades or the owls

My dad wanted to take me but I had a swimming exam! He went, and did tell stories of rowdy Wednesday fans. Must’ve been worse than I thought though based on these replies.

Go for the original Sheffield, the really old football team.

What isn’t so known was how they tried to attack Palace fans afterwards outside. For the first time since the 80s I was concerned by the gathering groups and half looking for possible escape routes, when suddenly a policeman appeared beside me. ‘Are you Palace?’ he whispered. When I discreetly confirmed yes (most of us having hidden our colours by now), he gave a reassuring nod, said ‘right, wait here’ and within seconds he’d called up his team of dog handlers. A frothing pack of German Shepherds on mega long leads raced past us and straight into the advancing SW mob. Their snarling and barking cleared the street ahead of us and we strolled through as nonchalantly as possible behind them. Fantastic timing by that officer, whose hand I’d still like to shake because his timing and discretion were spot on. That night I read on-line that several SW fans had ended up in A&E with dog bites. |

Funnily enough, I’ve also found South Yorkshire police to be really good, especially in comparison to other forces like West Midlands. Also always preferred going to Bramall Lane to Hillsborough - better fans, better atmosphere, proper good natured banter etc. Blades much better than Owls on my few away experiences in Sheffield. |

Yes, I think Bobby Madley has been trying to use that excuse too.

Sheffield City now play at Dronfield, just to the South on the way to Ches-Vegas.
