Away from home so I can’t look at the accounts but you will find the owners are providing loans to the club to finance player purchases.

I know this has been mentioned on other threads. Basically the insurance premiums are too prohibitive given the level of wages paid to players. I’m sure that SP actually confirmed this during an interview.

Also I tend to think that the insurance in olden days mainly covered career ending injuries.

I read that insurance pay outs don't tend to kick in until 18 months wages have been paid without them being able to play. After 18 months the insurance covers the wages.

Can't for the life of me remember where, and doubt this is in every case, but it was a general guide.

So so much money has gone on players who have arrived and been deemed not good enough for the first team.

I think this where we have gone wrong

In the mean time the rest of the Premier League is left to try and stay in the league to ensure their small piece of the pie, whilst the big clubs have no such worries as they are virtually guaranteed European football and the extra revenue that it generates.season after season as well as huge television revenue based on how many times they appear in live broadcasts compared to smaller clubs.

The gap between the big clubs and the rest grows every season and needs curbing for the sake of competition.

Palace are better off than many other clubs who would love to be in our position and are far from skint as this thread implies.
Not so long ago it was ‘the big 4’, so it would seem possible to break in as we now talk ‘big 6’.

Nothing to with breaking the top 4/5/6 or whatever.

The issue that we spent little in the last 2 windows and Roy is saying the same is likely in the next. That is worthy of discussion.

The second club breaking into the big six is Spurs. You have to admire the way they have been run in recent years.

Spurs have not actually won anything in ages for all of their spending and their new ground is way over budget and is likely to cost over a billion pounds.

They have however broken into the big six while spending within their means and building a new stadium. That is a well run club. The delay on the stadium is obviously not so good but building projects are often subject to delay at all stages for reasons beyond the owners control as Palace can testify to.

I agree some silverware would be good for them but they have shown that there is hope for clubs to improve their league standing without a sugar daddy.

Scatter gun season 1 approach burnt a lot of money

Pulis came in - bought well and restructured us. Pulis leaves
WHEELS COME OFF #1

Warnock came in - Wilf and Macca came in - Campbell, Fryers and Kelly too
Pardew came in - Souare and Mutch came in

WHEELS COME OFF #2 - Cabaye blows wage structure
Wickham and Sako joined on big wages too

Looked like it was going well, reached a cup final but barely stayed up. Bolasie sold.

WHEELS COME OFF #3 - 9 Expensive signings in 2 windows.
Benteke Townsend Tomkins Remy Mandanda.
Pardew failed, Allarydyce came in
Luka, Van Aanholt, Schlupp and Sakho.

We bought a whole new 1st XI in theory in 2 windows spending over £100 million in the process plus an extra c.£40m in wages. Without sales it will take us four windows before we can start spending again seriously. This Jan is the 4th window....

The underlying issue with all of the above is that we have had to pay Premier league wages and Premier league transfer fees because 15 out of last 19 players have been bought from the UK!

Of course along the way there have been some great moments, RLC on loan, Wilf, Benteke is his pomp, Cabayes class, Luka's goals and leadership, Sakho and Tomkins apparently the best we have had, but its coming at a price and eventually every bubble must burst.

We are in a vicious circle of being forced to overspending in the Jan transfer windows each year to save us from relegation meaning we have zero budget in the summer windows

Hmmm I'm not sure Rakip and Jach "saved us" last year.

Our squad hasn't been improved in the last year of transfer windows, hence where we are at now. Has to change at the start of January, can't wait till the 31st, has to be done early or we are down.

I really am not holding out on Benteke or Wickham saving us

Spurs are an AIM lusted company. The majority shareholder is ENIC an investment company owned by Joe Lewis. Daniel Levy, Lewis's partner at ENIC, is spurs Executive Chairman.

Doesn’t that mean Joe Lewis who’s listed in Forbes top billionaires doesn’t count as Spurs sugar daddy?

Yep, he's not a sugar daddy, just as our American owners aren't.

Are you trying to deny they're not a well run club? Their wage bill is tiny for a club in their position and they very rarely waste money on transfers, especially if you compare them to Man U. More significant to us is their wage bill is comparable to ours, with maybe only Kane and Alli earning slightly more than Benteke, Sakho and Zaha.

Not only that but that know how to deal with "problem" properties when rebuilding their ground.
