I wouldn't worry about this scenario too much.

Even so, I dont look at it as an Aeroplane, I see it more as a soaring Eagle.

No, the Cantona incident was the catalyst , not Cantona directly himself. It is a subtle and important distinction.
Let the facts get exaggerated so the hatred can continue, so someone else gets killed because of a football game, so as to continue the cycle It is actually pathetic, and the people who want to hate everyone associated with man Utd because of the actions of a few disgusting morons are probably the ones who have the least right to lecture on how awful what happened to Paul Nixon was as they will be part of the problem if a tragic event like this happens again. |

From what I recall of the reports of his death, the whole incident was very unpleasant and really showed what disgusting scum some people can be. A terrible day for his family.
I remember being down at Selhurst Park to get tickets and being interviewed by Sky about the death. It was a strange atmosphere with Ron Noades saying fans should boycott the replay. My feeling at the time was that some fans did not go in protest at the death but many others didn't go because they didn't think we had a cat in hells chance of winning and around that time we had a fair bit of success and the wider fan base was becoming a little complacent. A midweek replay at short notice in Birmingham is also a bit tricky for working types. What with this mans death and all the other factors the replay for me was a bit of a low. It reminded me somewhat of the empty feeling I had after the FA cup final replay. Having said all that, I don't think continuing hostility between the clubs because of this and the Cantona incident will do anybody any good. The best way we can move forward is to get points on the field. |

I didn't know Paul Nixon, but after what happened, I was one of those that couldn't stomach going to the replay. I just didn't have my heart in it.
I see there are Man U fans saying that there was no connection between Paul's death and the Cantona incident. It is highly unlikely that trouble would have flared without that 'kung-fu' kick a few months earlier. I hope they don't carry out this 'stunt' of wearing Cantona masks today. That would be in very bad taste and I trust the Police will act to put a stop to it. It should never be forgotten that a man lost his life all those years ago, and his friends and family have had to live with the consequences ever since. Sad times

Going to watch the game today with a couple of Man U fans. My son ( he should be Palace) and Keltic Eagles mate. The banter will be fun (well providing we do not lose ) and I am sure even they will be disgusted when Young does a theatrical dive (and he will). Even some Man U fans though loving the team hate Corporate United and what it represents. I wish people would enjoy football rivalry, even with disliking the opposition without wanting to stir up unhealthy hatred. It belongs in the past. |

C*ntona doesnt jump into the crowd, no animosity at the semi final Simmons did nothing more than other fans do at grounds up and down the country every single matchday C*ntona, did something no professional footballer has ever done before or since AFAIK

Hardly, it is a very vital difference and one of the ways fuels hatred the other takes a common sense approach.
I know what the sensible and correct way to view it is. What did Simmons say that was what so normal and therefore acceptable in your eyes? |

If my memory serves, Noades did ask the FA for a delay out of respect but they refused, which is why he was saying we should boycott the replay.

No one made him, he chose to do that after being sent off for violent conduct (and had he left the pitch promptly as he should have none of it would have happened) Simmons shouted some abuse at him, no idea exactly what he said, I was in the AW at the time but I guarantee it wasnt anything worse than at least 10,000 others were shouting at him that night It is an 'incident' initiated by C*ntona, no one else
