Posted about this in the training ground thread as didn't know where to put it, but it's about a location rather than just £££. They're definitely looking for new locations but there's not exactly an abundance of large green space you can build on in south London.

But yes, they are playing at Goals and it's really poor.

That's my point....we need an academy that is similar to Southamptons, rather than one that is producing players for League 1 and League 2.

That criteria misses some massive sales since say 2005, which include Gareth Bale, Walcott, Oxlade Chamberlain, Blackstock, Leon Best and Llalana

Someone was talking about discounting the players blooded whilst out of the premier league but yes, prolific academy system, Nathan Dyer is another one.

If the isue is finding a location, rather than money, surely there must be something on the outskirts of Croydon in the Surrey borders?

I get that we want to stay as close as possible to South London so that it is easier for the kids to get there and back, but as others have previously said, there isnt any room in South London, hell, we can't even find space for a new stadium.

Agree with this, but two questions for somebody, possibly Woosie.

* Is the current training ground big enough for the Academy?

* For Cat 1 do the first team training and Academy have to be on the single site?

Depending on the answer couldn't we develop an Academy which can be reached easily and move out of town for the first team (and Development probably) who drive any way?

1) No, 2) No, but the academy does. Not 100% sure if that's every level of the academy but will find out.

We need somewhere with a lot of green space (obviously) that can be built on.

How do the Chelsea youngsters get to Cobham? Spurs youngsters to Enfield?

All this must be in London with easy access for the youngsters stuff is a red herring

I'm sure the Noades family will come to our rescue and gift us the Godstone site we all helped them to buy with our Lifeline subscriptions.

They are bought houses nearby. No, seriously. Not necessarily anymore as the 90 minute rule has gone, but that definitely used to happen.

Cobham is easy train journey from Waterloo and training ground is right by station. Plus big clubs like Chelsea will often pay for taxis to take lads to and from training.

Here's my article on the U18s training and playing at Goals. It's quite grim reading really.
