Petition against West Ham's move to the Olympic stadium
Quote:
And a rate of £2.5 million a year - it will take the taxpayer 107 years to get the £265 million back ! |

The more you think about the figures, the more scandalous it becomes.
Ajax pay 9 million Euros a year for their stadium. West Ham's rent is nowhere near the going market rate and thus is subsidised, which is illegal.

Get over it guys. It costs the taxpayer more to remain empty.
Good luck to them, playing in a half empty stadium with no soul. Let's just concentrate on our own stuff. F*** 'em |

That isn't the only point though. One football club shouldn't get vast government support as it makes a mockery of sport.

The Spurs bid was a red herring,it was to try and threaten Harringay council that if they didn`t approve Spurs application for rebuild then they`d move out of the area (allegedly).Anyway what`s the point of this, the Olympic stadium is a done deal can`t do anything about it now.

That would leave West Ham up shit creek without the proverbial as they have already flogged Upton Park.

Barry Hearne pushed and pushed for a public enquiry while chairman of Orient, one of the reasons he sold out and quit was given as the conspiracy behind the Olympic stadium.Even the offer of a ground share was shunted into a siding. This is government shady dealings, funny handshakes and all that.No amount of public protest is going to change anything.

I think it would be them simply paying an appropriate amount of rent. 2.5m pa is far too cheap. I bet they probably get all the utility bills in with that too.

On top of the minimal conversion contribution, West Ham has been allowed to keep the sale proceeds of their current stadium, valued at £71m. Rental is £2.5m a year, halving should WHU be relegated. Taxpayers will cover the costs of stadium utilities, security, pitch maintenance, goalposts and corner flags - estimated to be worth £1.4m - £2.5m a year. Public money should be used responsibly, and in a way which does not distort the competitiveness of independent sports bodies and businesses. |

Apparently, according to West Ham fans on twitter, we have only been in the PL for 2 years so shouldn't have a say. They did win the world cup you know...

There's nothing wrong about West Ham being leased the stadium - it's just that the terms and conditions are effectively being subsidised by the state, which is illegal in European law and probably contravenes PL/FA regulations. That's what a public enquiry can determine and then decide what they should pay. West Ham will have to put up with that or try to buy back Upton Park - which may be a little tricky as it will be buried beneath a housing estate.

the petition seams to be gathering pace, and i think many people not just football and palace fans would sign this after reading it, or having it explained to them and what happened at man city etc

Isn't Brisbane Road close by? so they could ground share, at a reduced rental, so all will not be lost.

That would be brilliant - they'd have a smaller ground than Bournemouth!
