I would have to say that for the first two seasons when back in the prem, when puncheon played well palace played well. He is a massivee reason why we survived those first two years. His form may not have been quite as good since but to say you've never liked him is, in my opinion, one of the most ridiculous statements I've seen on here. And yes, I'm aware of some of the utter rubbish that does get posted!!!

But we are all entitled to our opinion!!

Look through my posts and you will see that I don't tend to post rubbish. It's not that I've never liked him. Like you I thought he was great the first two seasons and I believe that since he signed his new five year, big money deal he hasn't shown anywhere near the same level of commitment or performance. He has been utter crap now since the club rewarded him with his new deal and since he had two decent seasons and that really makes me angry.

If 'Punch' werent 'One of our own' the knives would have been out for him 12 months ago, lazy player who has the talent but never uses it, needs replacing IMO

That's what I don't get, lazy or uncommitted. It's the opposite of what he shows every game, it baffles me that you see it like that. Sometimes I think he tries too hard, cares too much, and it buggers his mojo.
Still, ultimately it's the manager's call.

Love punch. Classy player. We win when he plays well. I must admit he doesn't play well often enough these days as mentioned above.
Also not sure how he will fit in with the new style.

That would be 12 months ago when he was effectively demoted in favour of Cabaye by Pardew when he'd just had a blinding finish to the previous season?

For me he sums up what we have at the club perfectly. A very average, one dimensional player tied in to a long contract on big money who plays in silos. A total luxury player that has the odd good game and who once had something to prove but now that he had his decent couple of seasons in the Premiership and secured his millions through our club can't be arsed any more. Not quick enough physically to play out wide, not quick enough mentally to play behind the striker and not strong enough defensively to play in central midfield. If someone can tell me exactly what purpose he served for the past two seasons I would be very grateful as I cannot figure it out.
I just can't quite get my head round you've never disliked a player as much as him. Especially when we have the likes of Jordon Mutch & Andros Townsend on our books currently. Players who seemingly couldn't give a shit about playing for us.

Some of Punch's goals have been massive for us. I'm not saying he should be captain, but I really can't understand your post.

When he refuses to challenge for a header how is that trying to hard?

Plus he always seem to **** up real sitters

No. Don't see him as captain material at all. He gets too down on himself and too frustrated - hence when he is in a bad run of form it continues for a long time.

Personally I would also be looking to replace him in our strongest 11 too.

That's my feeling too. Very emotional which as a person is not a bad thing at all - but I think it does hamper his performance at times too.

When he's good, he's very very good. When he's not..........

I've no doubt that he has the passion to do this, but given he's prone to the occasional individual crisis of confidence one wonders what the effects of having the weight of the team on his shoulders would be.

If everyone is fit I'd have him as a bench player. He has far too many poor games. Nowhere a captain for me.

From some of the comments on this and other threads, it is quite clear to me that some people are watching too much Champions League football. Whilst I agree that players are horrendously overpaid, on a pro-rata basis with the top earners, our players are on pretty much average EPL wages and in terms of ability and performance, they are all pretty much bang average too. Barca, Real Madrid and Bayern pay top dollar and get the top players. We don't. If you expect our lot to be at those levels, they wouldn't be at Palace would they?
