I get the impression it's not about who you put the armband on, more about having enough experienced, confident, positive, encouraging and strong characters on the pitch that follow what the manager's told them.
At the moment we seem to have a lot of 28+ players but few that set a very assured example.

We should have given Paddy another contract.

Punch should never have to buy a pint in Croydon again, but I think will be a squad man next season.

Shame in a way, he's come to us at the fag end of his career, still influential and a leader, but not a 90 minute man

Surely it is meant to be the opposite of telling you what to do? The poster was just sharing a thought they had and opening it up to hear other people's opinions.

Agree with this, he is respected by all the players and is 100% Palace

Harsh experience tells me that putting 'thoughts please' at the end of the post results in a bit of an online kicking.

I love Punch, but our captain shouldn't be a guy who never sticks to his own position and repeatedly carries out 360 degree turns when he is in space

We do have an obvious problem with lack of real leaders on the pitch - the only other captain candidates for me would be a return to Delaney or the quieter more measured encouragement offered by Flamini who seems an excellent organiser - it was one of the real positives for me from the Bolton match. |

Always wonder whether we've secretly sneaked Michael Hughes into the coaching set up when I see a Punch turn, obviously not to be confused with a Cruyff turn.

Shouldn't even be in the starting XI, let alone captaining the side. Hasn't been good at all offensively for the last 18 months.

You do realise the entire team has been shit for the over a year... based on what you're saying, we shouldn't start anyone that's played a game for us in the last year!

no thanks. The "one of our own" chant is cringey... especially as hes done nothing in nearly 2 seasons.

Risk of having a club captain who doesn't play once we solidify the midfield. Would rather stick with dann as at least he'll be on the pitch

Puncheon: Been ever present under every manager at the club.
(Not sure about him being captain) |

James McArthur would come closest for me

Hopefully a bit of bonding, which will bode well for Steve.
