12TH would be good. I would like a no stress good football season where we can play a strong team in all the cup games.

Where will we finish? Well there’s the question. It’s amazing how quickly euphoria dissipates. Not long since the end of last season and we did finish on a high. OK the run-in was fairly benign but we played some good stuff and finished mid-table, despite only being safe the weekend before the end of the season. But, this was in the context of giving everyone a seven game head start, having an injury list longer than that of the A&E in Casualty and the weirdest January transfer window ever. With these headwinds, you’ld have thought that a bit of stability at the start of this coming season plus one or two additions and would Europe be out of the question? I mean look at Burnley. They get to play Aberdeen!
But, I remember a similar feeling at the end of the previous season. Big Sam had done it the hard way, beating Chelsea, Arsenal and even getting Benteke to score some goals which got us to safety, so you thought the future was bright…..and then he left and look what happened. We forget, this is Palace. One or two additions, etc. Instead we let peoples’ contracts run down so we are a hostage to this. There are holes to fill in midfield, partly as a consequence and alarming mutterings from Roy that there is no money to spend which a rabid press have linked to Wilf’s reluctance to sign a new contract. But hey we’re not done yet. It’s good to see we’re in some players so let’s see what happens. But those in charge seem to want to treat this as a proper business rather than just chuck money like normal owners do so, particularly after January, I’m not holding my breath. This means, slightly disappointingly, safety is the priority. Given the past two and a half seasons, it would be good to do this without the usual mass coronary amongst the supporters. I don’t see Wilf leaving. With two weeks left in this window it would be a particular act of lunacy to let him go. But our finishing position also has to be put in the context of those around us and this is the theatre. Are there three worse teams? Loads of questions to determine this. Will Colin make it to his first Christmas as a PL manager? (“I love Christmas, me. It has the best fans”). Whose supporters will Big Sam earn the enmity of as he saves their club from the drop, but plays dire football and upsets everyone so he can get fired and collects two years money for the six months he was there? Will Fulham suffer indigestion from their move to Wembley whilst their traditional home is turned into houses to pay for it? (that would be some neutral zone). Who will be Watford’s manager of the season? Will Silva get found out at Everton (a relegation and a sacking in two seasons? Whose he kidding?) What will the Europe effect be on Burnley and how will Dyche cope with the languages? What happens to the stars at Wolves when Mendez realises he’s done his agents fee? (has anyone tried wandering in Wolverhampton? Not to be recommended.) Will £100m on players be sufficient to stop the dildo brothers being lynched? Even amongst the top six there are questions. Will there be anyone left for Sarri to manage? How will Arsenal react to a generational shift in style espoused by Emery (Unai, not Dick) and will the City of Liverpool really change their traditional dish from Scouse to Chicken Mo Salah? Then there’s Brighton…….but who cares about them. So where will we finish? Who knows. Pin the tail on the donkey time. We have the stability and experience of St Roy of Croydon and that we haven’t added anyone means that the squad are used to each other. I suppose that’s a plus. However we hope for the proverbial rabbit from the hat in the next fortnight and that’s the thing. Hope. Realistically we’re looking at where we finished last season, or perhaps a bit below. It doesn’t get sticky until November so a good start is key. However, we hope for top 8 and a cup. Will Benteke rediscover his touch? Is AWB the new Kenny Sansom on the right side? Will Jairo become the Bergkamp of south London? Whatever. We go again in three Saturdays. Time to strap in. COYP. Last edited by JDawg; 25-07-2018 at 10:23 PM. |

8th. Will be disappointing as we looked fair set for an unlikely top 4 finish all season.

For the last 3 seasons I've hoped for a drama free season where we don't look at all like going down. There's always some reason why it doesn't happen!
On paper though: good manager, good first 11, superstar Wilf staying . A couple of decent additions and most pundits will put us 10th - 13th I'd expect? |

Yep.
Gotta feeling Parish is gonna do this season 'on-the-cheap' again.

Sign Meyer, Kouyate/ Gonolons and RLC back on loan then I would say anywhere between 7th and 11th and no danger of relegation.

Sign those 3 and it would depend on injuries and if our strikers can find form bit we would have a first XI, albeit limited cover that should be challenging for the European spots. Oh and a manager capable of making that happen.

The closest we have got to a euro spot is 10 points. It will be a good season if we get that close.

Happy with 13th or above. If we lose another first team player it could be bottom three.
