I accept the argument that promoted teams have to spend big but with the money in football these days, if you can't spend big then you are doomed to be relegated. If Zaha leaves this club next season, we are sunk and our transfer policy needs to create a team able to compete without him.

Does anyone honestly think we could stay up without Zaha even with our new signings? If you do then you are putting your head in the sand. What if he gets injured?
If we had not signed Ayew I would be concerned . He will provide a threat that we only had with Zaha before . Not a similar player but provides us without something different offensively . Central defence a concern with Sakho`s injury record .

I think you're being exceptionally pessimistic. Our back 6 (Guaita, PVA, Sakho, Tomkins, AWB and Luka) is as good as anyone's outside the top 6. We won't concede many goals this season. Our team without Wilf is still better than Brighton, Cardiff, Huddersfield, Newcastle, Watford, Bournemouth , Fulham and probably Wolves in my opinion so I really don't know which teams you think will finish ahead of us even without Wilf.

A couple of injuries to the likes of Zaha and Sakho and we will be in big trouble.
Do we not remember last season already?

You have obviously forgotten we had a disastrous pre-season with a coach who wanted try 3 at the back. A full pre-season with Roy and we will be a different animal.

Barely ready for league 1/2.

I think it's been ok - some good signings to replace the key players we've lost. We probably haven't improved much apart from in the keeper department. I like the look of all the players we've signed. Considering we had a small budget it's ok. I am shocked at the quality of signings the likes of Fulham, Wolves and West Ham have made though. As ever, it's going to be a very tough league and I can only see Cardiff having no hope.

My main worry is any injury to Zaha or Sakho though - I still think we haven't got good alternatives. Ideally, in the next window we would sell one of the No 9s and bring in a different type of striker - ie more mobile.

I'd say it's a decent 7 out of 10 window so I'm looking forward to the season now.

So you think that the coach and not the absence of key players was the main problem?
Sounds like wishful thinking to me.

I hope my pessimism is unfounded.

Can't agree with that Stinger - without Zaha we are a borderline relegation team. The evidence proves that. We don't have anyone that comes close to being as effective as he is. Unless Benteke can undergo a major turn around in form then we'll be relying heavily on Wilf again.

But I think we will have a good season. Anything from 10th to 16th would be ok imo.

Yes. We kept Wilf (subject to three hat-tricks), and I think we've made some shrewd purchases.

We got off to a horrific start, momentum is very important and we had none. We didn't have many players missing against Huddersfield first game of the season yet we got well beaten.

Happy overall. A few addition which will integrate into the culture of the squad without destabilising things. I predict Wolves, Fulham, Brighton to struggle early on; too much to integrate too quickly.

Not bad, kept Wilf so confident about doing well, lost Cabs but lets face it he was beginning to struggle with 90mins, got Kouyate who will cover for DM and CB, and if Meyer is what he's made out to be then we've potentially a really good player.
I suspect we'll be stronger than last year.
Oh yeah, gk's. A quality replacement in Guita.
