We’ve lost 10 games and we’re not quite half way through...
Lose another 10 this season and I think it’s Au Revoir Prem! |

I am just as if not more concerned than everyone about our current situation. However, it is amazing that we are still in 16th position and not in the bottom three.
To make some comparison with last year, we had one less point after 16 games last year but that was just before our wins against Watford and Leicester and draw at Swansea to leave us on 18 points at the half way mark. We finished with 44 point so we collected 33 points from 22 games in the second half of the season. The turning point came around this time last year with wins against Watford and Leicester. Stoke had 16 points after 16 games but finished on 33 points total. WBA had 13 points after 16 games but finished with 31 points total. Swansea had 12 points after 16 games but finished with 33 points total. Huddersfield had 18 points after 16 games and finished with 37 points total. Southampton had 18 points after 16 games and finished on 36 points total. So far, points required to stay out of bottom 3 are lower than this time last season. Last year, 18th placed team had 13 points against 10 points this year. Generally, bottom teams who survive get more points in 2nd half of the season than 1st half. Obviously, a lot can change in the remaining 22 games. Teams who look relatively comfortable could hit bad form (like us the Cup final season) while teams who struggling have plenty of time to turn things around. Our situation in Jan/Feb 2017 before the miracle under Allardyce was much more dire before we beat Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. We need a catalyst to turn things around. I don't think sacking the manager is the answer as I struggle to think of realistic options who are not higher risk but hopefully return of Benteke (he owes us!) and a couple of quality signings in Jan could turn things around. What we will be also relying on is that other strugglers continue to struggle and don't show a sudden turn of results (lets hope Fulham and Southampton don't go on spending spree in Jan and turn things around under their new managers!) as we have seen in past seasons from likes of Leicester, Swansea and Sunderland. One or two teams imploding like Stoke or West Brom last year would also help. What is clear is that this will go the wire and we need to be patient and realistic and get behind the team and the manager. |

On the plus side we only need 4 points from our next 5 games to stay on course to survive!
If we’ve got a forward after that...

As every season every shit time is just waiting to come good, and we will only get worse and never get another point.
Every season we get better and the shit teams stay shit and get relegated, but as always this is the year we go down! On past history no it aint |

But you are wrong we do not HAVE to pick up points against them. If we picked up points against all the teams that people say we HAVE to pick up points against we would finish 7th. West Ham, Bournemouth and Brighton away are not games we have to get points from - it would be nice but there is a tendency to over exaggerate the situation

You know things are bad when Huddersfield's Mooy being ruled out 'til February feels like an early Christmas present. Thanks Santa.

What’s worrying is last season under Roy, despite a ridiculous injury crisis, our results against sides outside the top 6 was superb. Think I’m right in saying, from late October until the end of the season, only Everton managed to beat us from outside the top 6.

I've made this point before on this thread but it looks likes the points for survival this year could be lower than average.
at this stage last season the top six sides had amassed between them 200 points. This season it is 213 (even with Man U being shit) (+13) At this stage last season the bottom six sides had amassed between them 80 points. This season it is 65 (-15) To view the link you have to Register or Login So, while I am as disappointed as the next Palace fan with our points total so far, the really important and obvious thing is just staying out of the bottom three. We need to hold our nerve! |

If we can start getting the results we all think we should be getting, then yes, a lower points requirement will definitely help. However, at the moment we are in that bottom 6 which is underperforming compared to last season, and so it doesn't really matter. I just looked at what I had predicted for us, and still have us at +1, with only a draw for Saturday down. Even a loss would therefore only put us level with where I had down. The game against Cardiff on Boxing Day is huge, and do suspect that, unless we beat Leicester and get something at the Etihad, a defeat in that one may see Parish take action.

Huddersfield now have lost Williams for 10 weeks after he was injured in training.
That is Mooy and Williams missing for nearly half of their remaining 22 games. It seems that Karma has caught up with them. COYP |
