Benteke's goals have helped to keep Palace in the Premier League since he joined earning Palace in excess of £300m which is ten times more than what Palace paid for him.

People can moan about the price paid for him but that has been justified as without his 15 goals in his first season Palace would have been relegated losing millions in prize money earned since.

Even taking his contract into account the gamble that Palace took in signing him has proved profitable and worth the risk.

The big money players, namely Benteke and Sakho, have been worth it and repaid our investment by keeping us up but we seem to have spent a shiitload of cash on some dubious signings AKA dross.

I know it's not science but surely we can just get a little bit better at recruitment?

Ask Alexis Sanchez at Utd.. Did you see his penalty miss!! At 400k a week he makes Benteke look like a bargain!

My favourite two worst signings in the Premier League are that Frenchman who we released because he disn’t make the 25 man squad (marange or something), and that winger who we signed because he once played well against us (I cannot even remember his name, I keep thinking it was Max Gradel but it wasn’t.)

Benteke is in decline, unless he has an injection of motivation, prior to his return. I wouldn't describe his most recent runs in the team as 'prolific'. I would describe it as 'poor' Perhaps that says more about the Palace squad and why we are loitering near the drop-zone.

What tosh again

How do you know we would have been relegated without Benteke ? How do you know that if we had signed someone for £20m they wouldn’t have scored 20 goals ?

If you think he’s justitfied his transfer fee and outrageous monthly salary of over half a million pounds - yes £500k a month - by scoring 15 goals in a season and then being utter shit for the next two, you’re far more delusional than I thought.

And that takes some doing

surely Mutch and Kebe trump both of these, even if it is for sheer shit factor and £££ alone.

I do largely agree with hdeagle. Of course there is a lot of speculation but we do know that Benteke did score 15 league goals and we did stay up. Whilst he has fallen way below expectation since then that one good season where he was a massive part in us staying up did earn the club way more than his fee and wages.
