And instead we have posts complaining that the board lack ambition.

I don't doubt that some of the 20% is needed for other costs. But last time I looked we turned a profit. There's headroom and my advice would be to trim the squad of wages that are not trusted by the management and invest in players/wages that are. It's pretty simple. Sell the fringe players with no prospects at a loss, and keep the first-teamers.

The key reason appears to be wages, especially those being paid to Benteke, Sakho and Zaha. It's very easy to now be blaming management for agreeing such wages. But I certainly recall many on these forums complaining about the lack of transfer activity, and when the name of Benteke, and later Sakho, came up there were lots of comments along the lines of "Why do we always take so long to get signings over the line? Just pay them what's needed to get them here"

Similarly, when Wilf was negotiating a new contract, I don't recall reading many comments that we should let him go rather than pay him on a par with what he can get elsewhere. Rather than that, I recall people urging the management to spend "whatever it takes" (a phrase I read often) to tie him to the club

As I said, I'm by no means suggesting financial management has been good throughout. Far from it. But I also think there is some hypocrisy creeping into certain observations

Sounds great when you put it like that but there’s absolutely no evidence to suggest that the club will do this, based on the fact that year on year we struggle to dispense the high earners & dead wood and continue to bring in exactly the same type of players we are trying to get rid of.

It’s a continuous slog and churn of dud players with the odd decent prospect thrown in.

There is no strategy in place whatsoever and everybody is getting sick and tired of it.

The lack of ambition is paying players like Wickham and Schlupp 60k a week each, nobody would have seen Benteke turning into a ******* carthorse. But buying players like Much for £6m on 30k wages is just sheer stupidity, our scouting network is clearly horseshit and the club have created this bag of shite themselves, they are to blame.

Who manages the finances of CPFC ? ( if indeed they are “managed”). Who approves the contracts for the players ? Who appoints the mangers, coaching staff and scouts ? Whoever they are, they must take ultimate responsibility.

I may be misinformed, but aren’t we spending a shed ton on the stadium development? Doesn’t that also have to be factored into this discussion? (Surprised it has not been mentioned)

Anyway it’s all BS, the fans would have demanded this that and the other. My personal opinion is that if SP or the board had just come out from day one in the premier league and said we don’t have a lot of money we’re going to try to buy low sell high, produce young players, and be financially prudent I think our current predicament would certainly be more acceptable. However we’ve constantly been fed drivel along the lines of if your not moving forward your going backwards and sat back watching us piss money up the wall on vanity signings like Sakho and Benteke.

I really want to see a job description of his role as Sporting Director and a breakdown of what he does during the working day. I really think a lot of us would love his income in return for what he brings to the table.

We're suffering the consequence of signing Benteke and Sakho, no question. Massive salaries coupled with massive wages is turning into a bit of a calamity.

We could probably get by if we weren't also paying the likes of Dann, Wickham, Schlupp and Jairo mammoth wages to warm our benches/treatment table.

All the while we have such a piss poor stadium, we'll never be able to get past this. If we can move on some of the deadwood this summer and sign some fresh talent from abroad, not on huge wages then maybe we can steady the ship.

Blame FFP for Palace not behaving like Football Manager in the transfer window and just signing who we want.

Palace have the 35th largest ground and the 15th largest ground in the Premier League which suggests that 20 bigger clubs are struggling compared to us and are below us in the league ladder.

Our spending on players and wages is limited by only having a club generated income of £12.5m and not by what financial resources we have as we have the 5th wealthiest owners in the Premier League.

That's not quite true, is it? Our owners may well be wealthy. Our income stream may well be limited by the size of our ground. But it is my understanding that we could spend more on transfer fees/wages but choose not to do so. We have not broken FFP or STCC, afaik, but we do have a high wage/income ratio. Please correct me if I am wrong.

We appear 'skint' because the wealthy owners have chosen to keep their hands in their pockets. Are they asset strippers or is it just shrewd financial planning?
