Wasn't it Hughes that had the goal disallowed, a trademark volley at the Whitehorse end. As I remember we were very lucky to get the decision on that one.

It was Birmingham. The thing that really annoyed me about that was the pitch invasion lasted on for ages with stewards trying to keep order and the police doing sweet fa until the mounted police were assembled in the corner between the Whitehorse and the Arthur (where The Flatterer used to come out of). After about 10-15 minutes, when the fighting had more or less run out of steam, the cavalry came charging across the pitch, the remaining "fans" ran back into the stands and the plods suddenly got very brave and started wacking anyone in reach and hauling off a few random culprits.

Complete cowardly ineptitude from the Met that day.

Seeing as Alan threw in a bum steer earlier, can I ask one please?

What Palace game had the longest period of postponement? (i.e. The period between the date it was originally scheduled for and the date was actually played)

Was that a cup tie against Forest that kept getting postponed and rearranged, about 92, I think?

Another one that comes to mind is famous promotion match against Burnley, May 1979. I think that match was rearranged from early Nov '78.

Ha! ha! Clever Answer.

That does actually beat the game I have in mind, but I would question whether did it ever really have a fixed date to begin with. So can we stick to recognised fixtures please... otherwise I'll start quoting the friendly we promised Yeovil, after the Pardew transfer in 1987 which we eventually got around to playing in 1993!

Don't forget Gary O'Reilly's Testomonial or whatever it was called. Noades promised it around 1992, to be played againt Brighton, promply fell out with GR and to my knowledge the game was or has never yet been played.

Is the game your referring to the one at Leeds?(first game of the season) that was canceled because the ground was still under construction?

Yup - that's the one Neil. According to the writings of Nigel Sands, Johnny holds the record for consecutive appearances, 153 games in a row between 1958-1962.

Obviously, unlike yourself, I wasn't around at the time to verify it

Already have tomorrow's two-part (!) one ready

I suggest you re-read the passage again Alan... It quite clearly says the record is for consecutive appearances from his debut, not total consecutive appearances...

That's two answers you've got wrong! Some questionmaster
