Wickham is a good player. His injuries only started at Palace and he has been unlucky. It takes him a long time to get into form once he returns from injury. But I really hope he can get there because when he's good he's great.

They must have some idea? When you consider he was supposed to be fit by mid Jan it's not unreasonable to expect an update?

The issue was that he was Ďthe big I amí in Sunderland with a tendency to stroll through some games.

Don’t think we’ll be able to include him in the 25 once window closes sadly.

I don't think that is unique at Sunderland full stop and when you look at the last few years years of their struggles to stay in the division you'd be hard pushed to name any player to come out of there with much credit.
Possibly Pickford and Defoe might not have been scarred too badly by their association with Sunderland I suppose. Besides Connor spent most of his time playing wide left didn't he as far as I remember.

He was and Martin O'Neil (who I would like as long term manager one day) said that Connor was more in love with being a footballer than football.
Should he get fit and looking for a silver lining in his injury maybe he will be all the better for it and appreciate how fortunate he is to play football.......let alone professionally and in the premier league.
Has all the potential inside him to score 20 goals a year every year.
Let's see you playing in the red and blue

That is such a telling statement by Martin O'Neil, unfortunately probably very near the truth. But we have to also sympathise with CW as we do with Jonny Williams, these guys seemed injury jinxed in their career and have never had the opportunity to realise their full talent.
The problem Palace face is how much longer can the club persevere and keep faith as wages paid to players these days is an expensive business, the next few months certainly for CW is vital as he needs to return to not just playing, but also show he can command a First team slot.

Dont you think the psychology of the player is important? There is no point setting an arbitrary date for him to push himself for only to
Relapse.

All injuries return dates are projected, the body heals at its own rate, and muscles take time to build up after atrophy. The reason they are not saying is they dont know, other than itís not soon.

He had a serious injury, just be patient. When heís back... heís back.

Even Defoe strolled through games in the entire second half of last season.

But that's the same old school dinosaur attitude that saw Wilf written off at both Man U and Cardiff. He's still young and I would hope maturing now that he is getting to his mid twenties and has a fiance and kid.
Lets see how O'Neil copes if he comes back into day to day club management.

Crikey, O'Neill is pretty much a polar opposite to Hodgson and as I understand it very hands off with the players. I had always thought he would be a tracksuit guy, always coaching but apparently not.

O'Neill left Sunderland when CW was 19? Hopefully he has matured a little and it's a bit harsh to hang that comment on him forever.

Martin O'Neil is 65 years old and he'd be a short term appointment and not what we need to change the clubs playing DNA over the long run. Especially if Roy completes his contract.

Looking back on it I'm amazed we didn't look at Qiuque Sanchez Flores or Claude Puel. Both decent managers quite unfairly binned from their clubs both in their mid 50s.

When a player is out injured for so long does the club pick up or the entire wage bill or are players insured against such long term injuries and therefore the insurance pays some or all of his wages?

Without looking, I guess we have 15 games left this season? Wickham isn’t training yet, and so when you factor in how much time/work he’ll need to get match fit, I’ll be surprised if he gets anywhere near the first team squad now.

I also reckon that Hodgson has purposely put that out there to make it clear that we need to buy at least one more striker ASAP.

Worrying what Hodgson says in this interview. Hopefully it's just to force home his point about new recruitment.
