Millwall away, Jim Cannon scored in the last minute with his hand/knee to snatch a 1-1 draw. 1987 at a guess?

I think that was the February 1976 game midweek which we lost 2-0. Palace were in the South Stand, police dogs and smoke bombs as well. Crowd was 33,300.

It wasn't 2 legs, it was 3rd round of League Cup, 28th October 1987 and McClair scored both for the wankers.

15TH of November 1969 Ipswich Town, lost 2-0 If memory serves me correct. Mick Hill scored both goals for them and I was 'over the moon' when he signed for us, but he never seemed to play for us like he did that day !!!!

Think this was about September 1965, a 2-1 win at Charlton, just after our promotion to the Second Division, an evening game, I seem to recall. Subsequently, in January ( probably ) either 1966 or 1967, I recall going to Carlisle for a 0-3 defeat in the FA Cup. Back then, this was a Friday overnight coach trip, depositing us in Carlisle at about 7.30a.m on the Saturday morning and return journey not starting until about 10.30p.m on the Saturday evening.
Also, remember the 1968 game, where MacDonald scored against us ( could have been his debut even, and as previously mentioned, he was a left back then ). Also, the days before crowd segregation of course.

Cambridge away in one of the cups in about 1999. I think we lost 2-0 and Hayden Mullins got sent off, but I am happy to be corrected!

You sound about 12 Gav Weren't they down there to see their blokes in prison? Great day with odd left/right fighting in the Palace end. Classy wedding we gatecrashed and a nice bus replacement service followed the midnight train back to Croydon. Pretty sure we beat Apollo Sports 5-0 the following day Do miss Gerry's great lines though. Also miss the whole away game experience.

Yep was a Friday evening game I think it was certainly dark when we came out and your right Super Mac played left back and arrowed one in from 25 yards to win the game and it was his debut. Didn't he go off to Luton or somewhere and then became a centre forward!

Got a feeling that this was the first game the famous Palace baloon display took place - as I remember, for some reason, all the baloons were black!

Was that just after Christmas in the old Third Division in 1975? If it was, I remember the day well. The match came after Palace had started the season with a string of wins and we were hot favourites to beat Aldershot. We dominated the game, but managed to lose (1-0 I think). That was the turning point and having lead the division by a long way, we fell back and eventually missed out.

Cheers. Weirdly I actually have no recollection of the score (like I have no recollection of what my first away game was), but probably is the same game( assuming it was half term at school as I cannot imagine my parents letting me go otherwise )

That match you are describing, James, was my first away game. Got the away travel section special train direct from Norwood Junction to Aldershot!

It was a miserable journey home I remember. I think we were 6 or 7 points clear at the top of the table at that time, but I feel that game changed everything. We lost a couple more just after that and the (league) season went flat.

We'd lost at Millwall a few days earlier, then came another two defeats but by then the momentum in the cup had built up and everyone seemed to focus on the cup run.
