First away game was against Bournemouth in a pre season friendly in 70s. We lost 2-1. It must have been around 1976 or 1977.

Aston Villa September 1967 or 8..Coach 3 11/6d(shillings and pence) I think..halfway line with Palace in Claret and Blue...at half time the Holte End crew came behind us and started surging....NOT realising that The "Palace Heavies" did not were colours and much to their surprise got "sorted out".....Hooked from that day on ...still friends to this day with some of The nutters I met that season....Happy Days

Might have been Wimbledon away at Selhurst in the home end.
But it's more likely it was Forest away in about 2001/2. We won 3-0 and I think Freedman and Forsell scored. Can't find reference to the game though. |

Yep. About George Wood being distraught after his mistake and saying he would never play again. He played the following week in the 1-0 loss in the FAC 3rd round at Newcastle and never played again.

Northampton Town away in the first round of the milk cup, 1984.
It was at their old ground which was three sided, with the far side being separated with little more than a rope and a bit of hoarding from Northants cricket club on the other side. Needless to say the match was dire (Palace and Northampton both ended up near the bottom of their respectives divisions) and ended 0-0.

My brother insisted on smoking a huge cigar through most of the game. Those were the days! Pretty sure we lost both times! Just thinking. Might have been Charlton on a Friday night, mid 70's. We lost. My outstanding memory of that is 'Alison's a wanker' being chanted incessantly. Last edited by petertaylor11; 30-04-2014 at 06:15 PM. |

Derby v Leicester 1977....Baseball Ground.....not yet a teenager and looked after by older mates...2 double deckers crammed well beyond capacity....we took the lead through Roger Davis then from the terraces next to us came a load of bricks...the Derby next to us must have had them stacked at the top of their terrace....Derby came back to win 4-1...then all hell broke loose on the walk back through the corrogated iron alley and main road where i was shielded from the worst of the Shannanagins.....i recall trying to enter a shop that was being looted by Leicester and this older lad from our bus coming out with one of those big jars of sweets you used to get on a stand....he smashed it on the floor after telling me ''help yourself young'un''....mad days...

I didn't start going to away games until I was 17. My first one was a win at Plough Lane just before the Cup Final. Unbelievably, Rudi Hedman had Fash in his pocket. Pardew beat up one of their players (might have been Wise) and Brighty got the only goal.

I found it quite amusing and wondered why anyone else didn't use it as a retort to our vocal power.
