Final issues of past Palace fanzines
Just uncovered a box of old Palace stuff, including some scrapbooks I kept when I was a kid and stacks of old fanzines. I seem to have quite a collection of them and it threw up a couple of questions in my mind.
I know that Eagle Eye finished on issue 30 and Eastern Eagles on issue 19, but does anyone know what number the last issues of One More Point and Palace Echo were? I'd like to complete the collection of all four if I can. |

I was digging through some old Palace Echo's earlier looking for a particular article.
Looking back several years on I'm amazed at the things that we used to write about. Found an article moaning about the away coaches which I wrote which is kind of sad looking back at it. Alan Russell wrote some seriously decent articles though, and there are some great interviews here and there. Anyway, to answer the question:- Eagle Eye did actually 'come back' for a brilliant one off Palace Centenary issue in Feb 2005. It was 'officially' counted as Palace Echo No 66 for subscription purposes Palace Echo - last printed edition - Summer 2007 (Issue 78). Finished with a bang - decent Simon Jordan interview in that one! There was however a very final 'online' only edition in Autumn 2007 (you had to pay online, download it yourself, and if you're a saddo like me, print it off and keep it) One More Point - Last Issue = Issue 60, April 2003. However it kind of returned for a 'One Off' fanzine called "Eagle Aye", Feb 2004. It was sold (and sold out) at a Palace away game at Sheffield United. Funnily a large amount of the content is all about slagging off the then Sheff Utd manager 'Colin Wanker'. Dorking .Eagle = chronic hoarder of Palace Tat!

Used to love Eagle Eye & the Echo, espicially Barrie "the pessimist" Greene, who even in our top division times used to be pretty forthright with his views.

Think I may have most of the Eastern Eagles somewhere, together with all the old artwork etc as well as the letters I received from Steve Coppell, Ron Noades, Terry Venables to name a few.
I also think I may have some of the Orne Blinketts (Norwegian Palace Fanzine), some of the Red and Blue Reviews as well as Neil's original pre-Eagle Eye rags "over land and sea" and "glad all over" somewhere.

Orneblikket still chugging along by the way - set to be the first Palace fanzine to reach 100 issues.

Even had a pull out poster showing that Neil Warnock spelt Colin W anker which I was proud to see being held up by various fans during the game that day. I found the original artwork for it recently and had forgotten a lot of the content tbh. Was quite ambitious/crazy to do a fanzine about a London team but how deep down they were a northern team in disguise! Pretty sure it's the only Palace fanzine to have Saddam Hussein on the front cover! (But I know a Villa fanzine did it once!)

I remember queuing up at a chippy outside Bramall Lane before a Sheff Utd v Palace game, at a time when Warnock was Palace manager. The Sheffield United fans started talking about Warnock, and they all said that whilst they thought he was great for them and what he did, they wouldn't have him back again.
That's pretty much how I feel about him too, he really did his best, but no way would I have him back again!
