Thing is for me and a lot of fans, he doesn't LOOK like he's trying.
But that is his style. It was his style when he scored a hatful last season.
It was his style when Aston Villa liked him - and when Liverpool wanted him.
He hasn't changed.
Maybe now we have most of our players back he will get some good service - the service from which he scored a few last year.

Maybe he just needs turning off and on again.

Ah, the old ‘service’ myth again.

I suspect we'll try and cut our losses this summer unless there is a big improvement in these last 8 games. 2 years left on his deal this summer, last chance to get any money back all combined with high wages and under performance. He seems like the type of player that would interest China!

Unfortunately Benteke is becoming a luxury that we can no longer afford, we can come up with many ideas of what he brings or can bring, but sadly does not bring a lot as his measly TWO goals this season has proved.
What is so frustrating is when you see lesser players like Ashley Barnes as an example offer so much more effort, energy, all round play and most importantly GOALS.
When you consider this is World Cup year and CB is a big part of the Belgium plans, yet surely with his lack of committment to the cause has probably seen him blow his chances of selection, such a waste for himself and in turn Palace.
I have no doubt if Roy stays on, CB will be sold this summer but the key is how much will we get for a player so badly out of form, but maybe we will have to take a hit so as to take his considerable wages off the clubs finances.

He's missed the 2nd most clear-cut chances of any player in the Premier League at 18.

All the players around him in that table have generally scored as many or more goals than chances missed. Service is not the problem, he is.

Who has missed the most, out of interest?

Salah, what it doesn’t say is how many chances each has had. Also it’s “big” chances not clear cut chances.

Chances will surely be goals added to Big Chances missed. It would be relatively easy to work this out as a percentage e.g if Salah has 20 goals and has missed 20 Big chances therefore his conversion rate is 50% (in reality it is better than that but I have simplified it ) Benteke however has 2 goals and 18 big misses, his conversion rate is therefore 10% 2/20. So he needs 10 big chances to score one goal. I could go through the list and work out all the statistics but rest assured they will not look very favorable for Benteke. In fact they will be totally embarrassing.

Given that both are subjective I'd say it's fair to make the assumption that a big chance is the same thing as a clear-cut chance.

Whatever way you spin it, he's not converting chances at anywhere near the rate expected of a £30m striker, or indeed a striker full-stop.

I'd wager Scott Dann has a higher conversion rate in a Palace shirt.

Just to provide some more stats, I undertook a quick analysis of selected players' conversion rates based on the amount of chances and goals scored, so effectively what percentage of big chances they score.

Murray 64%
Kane 60%
Lukaku 58%
Crouch 50%
Gayle 45%
Austin 50%
Jesus 42%
Mane 42%
Zaha 40%
Dann 33%
Loftus-Cheek 25%
Benteke 10%

The results can be a little misleading in certain circumstances, although not with the selected players e.g. If a sub comes on for one game and scores a goal with the only chance and it may be more accurate to take penalties out of the equation (goals scored not misses) but it is still an indication how poor Benteke has been this season

10%

Didn't think it was that high.

So Benteke needs 10 clear goal scoring opportunities to score one goal?

I would have expected Jesus to have a very high conversion rate.

Not in anyway denying that he should have done better and should scored more but he has also been denied by some very good saves on a few occasions. Dea Gea is one obvious one and I think Pope made a great save from him at Burnley.

In fact he hasn't missed many sitters all season (the one at Everton recently is the easiest that does spring to mind). However, he has had a LOT of chances that you would expect to score from half the time and he hasn't scored from any of them. That is the big frustration for me.

It may also be a sign of a player lacking confidence and conviction, that he has often had decent efforts on target but which are saveable if the keeper does well, rather than going with full blooded conviction, risking a mishit/ missing the target if he gets it wrong but being unsaveable if he gets it right.

Composure is such a big factor with finishing and it is something he is badly lacking at the moment.

Composure and ability with feet. It's been a year hasn't it since he last scored a goal with a shot? 30+ games. Has to be put down to not being good enough now. Past it.

Seems a bit harsh having him put down, although it may be the fairest thing to do

He is 27 FFS

He is not past it, he is having a poor season with a severe lack of confidence, playing in front of people who abuse him, and that's his own fans!

Would be surprised if he has a season this poor next season, or ever in the next 4/5 years. We can try and support him though the difficult times or bin him off. Personally i hope we support him through the difficult times.

Without being able to take penalties do you honestly see him scoring 15 goals a season again at any Prem club in the future? He's peaked and on his way down the hill. It's not lack of confidence he is suffering from - see that grab for the ball pen v Bournemouth. It's lack of ability as a goalscorer - See that pen v Bournemouth again and numerous other chances, or lack of runs to make a chance in the box, over his last 30 appearances. If he weren't a Palace player you'd be laughing at him.
