Roy Hodgson is trying to do a £4m deal for Ipswich keeper Bartosz Bialkowski.

Crystal Palace boss Hodgson wants a new keeper in January to strengthen that department despite already having Wayne Hennessey and Julian Speroni.

Polish-born Bialkowski, 30, is top of Palace’s hit list of keepers and they have already made enquiries to Ipswich over whether they will sell.

Bialkowski is out of contract at the end of the season but there is an option to extend the deal so Ipswich will still ask in excess of £4m.

Palace also want a centre half after potentially losing Scott Dann for the rest of the season after he suffered a “serious” knee injury in their defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

They could also be without Jason Puncheon for the rest of the campaign after he injured himself while fouling City’s Kevin De Bruyne.

Sounds interesting, people saying 'not good enough, what's the point etc' I'd bet 9 out of 10 of them have no idea how good or bad he is.

For a 30 year old keeper you are not buying any potential so it is questionable if we are buying a firm No.1

We have no goalkeeper signed for next season at present so he is a good shout for a 1st choice Championship keeper, back-up PL keeper.

Given he is Polish, how well is he performing playing week in week out if he cannot get a callup to the national team where only 1 goalkeeper is playing regularly. Even Boruc was called up in November despite not playing. I haven't seen much of him, but you would hope the national setup would have an idea how he is performing.

Speroni never got the call from the argies. Surely would’ve been good enough for 3rd choice a few years back.

To me this looks like a cheapish option to give us immediate cover (not sure where he would sit in current pecking order), with Speroni/Hennessy departing to make way for a new number 1 in the Summer maybe?

Pure speculation of course.

Sczesny, Fabianski, Boruc and Skorupski is a set of quality keepers, I know little about this Ipswich fella but I wouldn’t be too put off by him not getting international call ups.

Decent reputation and did ok at Southampton before he got injured. £4mill for a player who may be a number 2 come next September, fee is probably about right

I would not take Boruc as a number 1, and that goes to my comments that he is not a clear PL No.1 keeper IMO. We have no keeper signed for next season so he fits the bill as a PL No.2 or Championship No.1. A replacement for WH but not the No.1 Keeper we need IMO.

30 isn’t that old for a keeper? Prime years around there.... Speroni was huge for us at the age of 32/33 etc... Ipswich fans love him

Thats kinda what i said - at that age there is not a lot more to come, they are at their peak. Never said it was old or young just that you are not buying potential.

Boruc is presumably chosen as an experienced head to have around the squad, not out of merit, like how Spain still choose Casillas occasionally despite him not being a top 3 Spanish keeper nowadays. The other three are all starting Prem quality. I know nothing about the bloke so just want to see how he turns out.

Why do you have a blind hatred of someone that has never done you any harm? Your apparent hatred of a previous employee of our club is, quite frankly, bordering on obsession. He wasn’t that good, or comitted to our cause, but so what. Have you forgotten pieman Miller? Now there’s a man to get upset over imho!

To be honest I'd be fairly happy with him. Would give us the 3rd keeper we need for rest of the season, hopefully wouldn't cost too much, leave some funds for elsewhere and if we still need a new No. 1 we can address that in the summer.

I see - for some reason I read it more that he was too old. Sorry if I misunderstood.

He’s at that age where it’s now or never, we won’ be able to develop a keeper this January, but he can do a job for a few years.

Also players like Jimmy Kebe who just couldn’t be arsed, even Jordon Mutch who’s still on our books. Time for him to let the Mandanda agenda go
