Would be delighted if we spent as much of the budget as possible on another striker, someone with a bit of pace that can stretch defences, offer a goal threat and chase stuff down. Someone like a Dembele, Batshuayi or Ings would be amazing. Then try and use the loan market for the rest. I genuinely believe another proper goal threat would elevate us to mid-table and beyond in no time.

It’s a tough one to call really. We have exceeded our budget several windows in a row now and Steve has said the owners are having to add funds every time due to the inflated prices that show no signs of slowing.
If we had 27points + we’d have had very limited funds for a player or two if Roy really felt he needed it. 3 wins from safety, we can’t spend every window If we had less than 15 points I think we might have offloaded a premium player or two and signed championship players that will give us a good chance of bouncing back and maybe.. maybe giving us a freak chance at staying up but 90% preparing us for a spell in the championship. A limited budget made through sales However.. Roy has the the sweet spot in terms of points. The huge improvement in performances, the tactical master class every week and the players fighting for everything.. the owners will see we really can and if backed should stay up. I suspect they were planning towards the end of December to sign 3 quality players for reasonably big money and with the injuries will make that 4 as we desperately need a cb now. Whilst they won’t want to keep spending like this we have an excellent chance to stay up and if we spend again would 9 times out of 10. Ultimately relegation is the most expensive option so I think Roy will be backed well if the players he wants are available. If we do however I expect a quiet summer only really replacing those that leave... assuming we stay up of course

It would be a good idea to try and get a player in before this weekend, so he could get a run out in the FAC game at Brighton. Two newbies would be even better.

If only we'd learned how to properly plan for the season ahead we would never have to have this discussion every bloody year!

Very true!
We don't need to do a lot in this window. Clearly another option upfront but otherwise anything else is a bonus. |

Jan window is a tough one - we need to fill a couple of key positions but have to be weary of overspending on inflated transfer prices (like last year) and adding crap to the wage bill (mutch, Lee, Sako until the last few matches) which has an impact on future seasons.
Hopefully we’ve already identified our key targets (a Luka leftfield buy from a Champs league team in a weaker national league could be an option) which we can obtain and no panic buys. The key position is a decent striker - half the teams in the bottom half are Looking for one and an affordable back up striker that can net 10 goals plus in the prem are rarer than hen’s teeth. |

Probably target 4 players.
Try and do what we need to early. Goalkeeper, Centre Back, at ticking midfield, and Striker. We have now lost 2 of our current 25 man squad for 12 months or more so feel 4 is the realistic minimum required. |

2 serious knee injuries for Dann in a year probably doesn't bode well for his future?

Controversially perhaps, I would leave the keeper until the summer unless we happen to get a really good deal lined up. Striker and Centre back have become more important the way the season has progressed.

I believe we are still limited to 2 loan players irrespective of where they come from.

If that is true it must have changed over the Summer. Didn't Hull have about 6 loan players last year? Watford had several too I think.

We really can't. One injury to Hennessy and we have only one keeper who limits the way we play and could be targeted at corners - it could make a big difference in losing points. Huge error not to have got at least one more in the summer. Newcastle had to use 4 keepers in the season they went down

2 loans from English teams. Watford used to have the United Nations on loan

That is certainly what it was last year. Two Loans from English teams but they can't be from the same Premier League team.

Unfortunately the Premier League handbook doesn't appear to cover foreign loans and just rules on domestic loans. Maximum of 2 at any one time and a maximum of 4 loans during the season.

We have a horrible run of games between the end of February and the end of March. We need to get plenty of points on the board before them, which means strengthening the squad now. We can only hope that SP has finally learned his lesson and won't wait to play poker on the last day of the transfer window.

We had six British players start in the team against Southampton last Tuesday (7 if you count Wilf).
I think we have always done well with a good mix of British and overseas players and would like to see that sort of mix continue. Obviously don't want players coming in just to take the money. We've had enough of those players recently. I'm sure Roy will oversee transfer matters wisely |
