Jan transfer budget

It's possible he will, put it this way, would you stick around at your work if you'd proven yourself to be the best possible candidate for your job but were still given no support from above? Despite working wonders with very VERY limited resources, but because you were working well with shit available no extra resources were offered to you.

I also suspect SP might want to get a bit of wages off the books if we are the 9th highest payers in the Premier.
Arent the club limited by FFP in this regard? A point he has made vehemently on occasion. As in, how do other clubs get around it. He will say that he can buy this player or that player, and cover the extra wages - but FFP will invoke a massive fine at least because our income from other sources doesnt allow us to overspend in such a way. But seemingly Bournemouth, as one example, can get around it.

No one gives a shit about FFP anymore. That's why Bournemouth spend **** loads when they only have a 6000 seater stadium and Everton have spent over 100million this season on bang average players and hasbeens.

Roy's press conference - 'we are sifting through players to see which ones are best suited.'
What have we been doing for the last four months? Surely to go into the window knowing who our main targets are? |

If only it was as simple as playing a computer game.

Don't be silly.
We've had four months to line up signings - with a keeper and striker being paramount. Of course not much business will be done early but we could have signed at least one player by now - certainly in time for Burnley and hopefully we still will. Do you think Hodgson is acting like it's a computer game then judging by his comments? Ok can tell he's frustrated by the lack of progress - 'I'm waiting with bated breath.' |

But then invariably we do spend big. Benteke, Sakho, PVA, Schlupp.

We are, more than ever, competing with at least 10 other clubs for signings.

What I don't understand is why we don't sell players like Mutch and Kai Kai who obviously don't have a future at the club, free up wages for £1.5m each, and stall on a couple of million in getting a quality goalkeeper leaving the door open again?

Mutch is on top money and no one wants to match his wage. So he will see out his contract.

Re Mutch: probably because no one wants to pay a fee for him and match the wages he is on at palace

I don't really get the injuries mean we have to suddenly buy loads more players. Surely that is a rather drastic solution to a short term problem. Personally i think we do need players in but surely signing a centre half on a three year deal and decent money would be fool hardy when we are well catered for in that position and just unfortunate on the injury front?
Goalkeeper, centre midfield cover, winger to compete with townsend and back up striker. |

A fine will be the least of anyone's worries. It is more likely that club will face a transfer embargo and/or a points deduction.
