6 or 7 new signings
Ok Roy has admitted this is unlikely but recognises how depleted we are and a thinly veiled kick up the backside to Steve/Dougie. Concerning that he says they are only going through the candidates at this stage. Surely this should all have been done for goodness sake, at least on the positions previously identified before the recent injuries.

Roy is pissed of with injuries (makes it even more bizarre that we played so many first teamers last night) but bar Dann and punch.. the rest will be back soon. I heard that sakho and ward ‘might’ even feature against Burnley. We need reinforcements and quick.. 3-4 players would make a huge difference right now

Have another go at reading the first few words of the first sentence, it's a give away.

Wonder if we'll use our resources on a keeper now since we need outfield players more urgently in our current situation. We are getting by with the two keepers we have...

He’s frustrated at the injuries. Saying we were looking for maybe 3 players but he injuries are so bad we could look at 6 or 7! He was using that to quantify how badly we’ve been hit by the injuries. We won’t be trying to sign 6 or 7 players and Roy isn’t having a pop at the board

The two last night could be bad but let’s wait and see.. In the next 2-3 weeks we’ll have RLC, ward, sakho and a few additions back. |

Roy is just pointing out what we all have known for a long time. Our squad depth has been neglected for a long time and with the failure of the summer window, the situation is close to desperate with the current injuries.
Although it may be taken out of context he is just telling it like it is and washing his hands off it if it does go pearshaped again.

He also said "We have been talking about strengthening our squad for about two or three weeks into my time at the club", so it's not as if they have just started. "sifting through the candidates" is just stalling talk, imo. He doesn't want to give away if we are in negotiations. Perhaps an optimistic opinion, but there it is.

We should sign six (seven if Wickham is not going to be fit any time soon) and get rid of four.
In: Two keepers (one first choice, one young with potential), one centre back, one defensive midfield player and two or three strikers (at least one of which can play wide). Out: Hennessey, Mutch, Kaikai, Benteke If we can find a taker for Benteke that can free up significant wages and bring in a big fee to make good inroads into the signings needed. Obviously getting rid of Mutch is easier said than done. |

If we sign
Keeper - Guaita Cm - Amadou (who can also cover cb) St - niasse Outlay of around £30m and will massively improve us depth wise. Anything else is a bonus |

No way are we signing this many players in this window.

We now have Dann out and Punch as you say and with the risk of a fragile Tomkins and Sakho we are forced to turn to Damo and that isn't good enough. So CB must come in unless he fancies Fosu-Mensah there. I guess not because he could have tried him yesterday. If Townsend is 'just a dead leg' he should be OK but Schlupp could easily have stretched a knee 'ligaments' which will take a while and may mean we keep PVA. TBH I don't fancy either of them long term but I would actually be keen to cash in on PVA who I really think is over rated on here. So if they now need 4 or maybe 5 players and the budget was a stretch in the first place I suspect they are having to shuffle things and I bet that is screwing up the work already done. Worse still is that the hesitation is throwing doubt into the negotiations and we could lose out. The Spanish keeper looks to be one of those perhaps. Nightmare and if we don't get this right we could be in some more trouble. Our track record of closing deals seems dubious at best.

Are you saying we will be relegated if we don't sign 6-7 players in this window?

Roy has done a fantastic job, but unless key players come back quickly & we add some quality players, we risk putting all his good work in the bin. We are nowhere near being out of trouble. 6 or 7 players is obviously unrealistic but we don’t want to get to February looking back at what we should have done! Relegated? Who knows? What I do suspect is that the risk is very real if we don’t bring in sufficient quality this month. The numbers that we need will depend entirely on the extent of our current injury list and how quickly we can get them back in action. Let’s not be looking back in the summer regretting not adding numbers to the squad in January.
