Seems a bit toppy to me, I think you might be looking at full install costs. For example I did a quick search off the top of my head and you can get a 1.2kw kit for 750 notes, to give an idea of the market, they're not complicated things.

You'll still have to think about battery/inverter and how you'd configure things but they're not a lot of dough at all.

Trying to understand the feed in tariff situation and found this long but interesting article. Seems like the government doesn't have a clue what to do next but should've done a review by now. Not sure if it's worth waiting.

Spare electricity generated by your panels heats a big water tank first before being sold to the grid. Then when you want hot water you don't waste gas by firing up your combination boiler every time someone turns a hot tap on. Well worth doing here as the FIT tariff is so pish now. If you are using other stuff like the washing machine, dishwasher, car charging etc, the water heating doesn't happen until there is spare capacity again. I think that's how the diverter valve/ibooster regulates things.

Sounds similar to our heat pump which is a little like a reverse refrigerator. It transfers the heat in the air outside of the unit to the water stored inside the heater through a heat exchange system. External air is drawn into the heat pump system via a fan into an evaporator containing a special type of refrigerant, which is stored in piping.
Our's switches on at 10am each day and runs for as long as it takes to top up the 315 litre tank with any water that's been used the previous day! So working with a solar system it gives us free hot water all year. The initial cost was about 25% more than for the replacement of the two existing gas hws.
