He was at least being (sort of) Presidential doing that.

Not really sure what value there is in what Pelosi and her delegation were doing on the trip... and to use military aircraft to boot.

She should have thought this one out better and could have made a point of cancelling the trip on her terms and making a show of it. A fail on her for this one.

I can't believe I'm sticking up for Trump here!

Haha. maybe I can change your mind re:Trump.

The CODEL have to travel by military aircraft for security reasons and they go because the Congressional leaders would like to be briefed by military leaders on the front line. It's pretty standard and relevant since Congress has to agree and fund the DoD budget.

As I understand it the majority of the defense department isn't effected by the shutdown, excluded are the coast guard and some weather peeps - so it's business as usual for them, not quite sure what the problem is.

It's also worth noting that Trump essentially leaked secure information by releasing the details of the trip ahead of time which, to some degree, compromises their security.

Could this be the straw....

Donald Trump ordered former lawyer Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about his plans to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, according to explosive new claims.

With the US president still mired in deadlock over the government shutdown, the new allegations relating to Cohen – sentenced to three years in prison in December – have prompted calls for his resignation or impeachment.

Cohen has meanwhile admitted he paid a technology company to manipulate its poll results in favour of Mr Trump during campaigning in 2014 and 2015 and expressed concern about his forthcoming appearance in Washington due to fears for his family over what he considers to be intimidatory tactics emanating from the president.

Mr Trump has branded his former confidant a “rat” over his decision to co-operate with the Russia probe.

Much fun made of an interview on CNN with Rudy Giuliani where he changed his story from, "no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia'" to "the President not aware of any collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia."

I wonder what is about to be made public ...

The only bit of hyperbole that he has come out with that seems correct, is that he could murder someone and still be elected. There seems a segment that literally doesn't give a **** what he does.

That's fine... it's just another tick in their "not put a lot of thought into my actions" column.

That is no excuse for Pelosi to do like wise. She had an opportunity to take the high road, but blew it... handing Trump an opportunity to score some points.

I say this as a Democrat, it is time to give in to Trump and give him his 5 Billion for his wall.

The point has been made, and the government worker effected by this should not be made to suffer. It is effecting both safety and security of the nation. They should not be pawns in this battle of egos.

The wall (if ever built even with the money) will be Trump's millstone around his neck, his lasting legacy, good bad or indifferent... but 100% on him.

They can name it "The Donald Trump Memorial Wall" when he's gone.

And when he comes back next year and wants 5 billion for internment camps?

That's when you say no.

However, in a world outside of Twitter, do you really think that would be a possibility?

I like to think he can only go to the well so many times before it dries up.

At some point he will (if he hasn't all ready) be crossing a line where he alienates The GOP to the extent there will be an undivided force working against him.

At this time I would fear for his own well being... not that I particularly care what happens to him personally.

But giving in to his blackmail demands will be the new baseline, making the next step harder to oppose.

I can't disagree. That is why The Wall needs (or needed) to be separated from the current budget. I'm sure they can find a way.

Whatever they can do, but ensure all paths lead to Trump being solely responsible for the wall - it's his baby... no one else's.

But giving him his wall will be perceived as a Trump Win, and therefore bring the GOP back on to his side.

If like to see how exactly 5bn will build a wall across the US border. No way can they build the kind of wall he's been talking about for that, let alone.maintain it and patrol it.

The sum is definitely insufficient. In fact, I think it would take decades to even acquire all the land required to build on. Imagine the reluctant land owners the, protestors. Parts of the border are geographically unsuited to a wall also, due to both the terrain and water flow.

Even if it was built it wonít substantiational change the situation on the borders. Most of the people coming to the border are asylum seekers who present themselves for legal processing. The minority of hardened criminals or gang members coming over the border will use alternate methods like boats or tunnels or ladders. And we learnt from the El Chapo trial yesterday that overwhelming his network imported drugs through ports of entry.

The wall is a gigantic folly. But now itís a politically loaded one and if Trump secures his funding his base will be jubilant and energized. The Dems donít want the wall, know itís a waste of money, and donít want to give Trump his win. Trump wonít budge. Meanwhile 800,000 people plummet towards the poverty line. Ugly business. Itís up to the Senate to see sense and break from Trump.
