Zurich: Easy to get round and good for a weekend in summer.
Vienna: Compact inner city its one of those places that appeals to specific tastes. Budapest: Fabulous city with lots to do and easy to get round once there, however it took a while to get into the city which limits a weekend. Munich: Been twice once on a stag weekend and once on a family holiday, enjoyed both well worth visiting. Do not take a taxi from the airport ! Oslo: Very expensive but worth it, easy to combine city; fjord or countryside. Copenhagen: Another nice city plenty to see and do, like Oslo very laid back but not as expensive. 3. Budapest 2. Copenhagen 1. Oslo just beats Copenhagen has it offers more variety for different types of holiday. However I agree with foxinthebox Stockholm is the best city albeit not on the list. |

Ranked in order (those I've been too) and some comments...
1. Athens - Top, top nights out to be had, with brilliant places to hang out in day, sights galore if you want them - the one downside is it's not particularly family orientated. 2. Madrid - I love Spanish cities, not quite as good as Seville but runs it pretty damn close. 3. Munich - The Olympia park is mental in a good way. If the weather is good, head towards the Alps on Sunday - Fussen, Garmisch good day trips. No, it's not Berlin... but then nothing is. The rest... 4. Budapest - A while ago since I was there, but had a fantastic time loads to do and see, but perhaps a bit stag-orientated. 5. Istanbul - Cool as feck, but grimy and food isn't that great unless you have local knowledge, still rate it highly even though I got mugged the first time there. 6. Helsinki - Cute and small city, easy to do the sights in a day - take a short ferry ride across to Tallinn on one day. 7. Copenhagen - like Helsinki small and mostly pretty but too bleeding expensive. 8. Gothenburg - good theme park but not a great deal else to see there and pricey. 9. Paris - By rights this should be right up my alley, sights a-plenty and great food. But I've never got the place, I can't get past the fact the Seine smells strongly of shit in the summer - sorry. 10. Zurich - very commercial, I can only commend it as a jumping off place for other Swiss towns. 11. Warsaw - went in 1997 it was awful, no incentive to go back, but I guess it must have improved since. Certainly has cleaned up its act, if any of the TV coverage of the Euro's is anything to go.

1. Dubrovnik - My first ever holiday destination without my parents, was Yugoslavia back then but was most excellent, very cheap as on the verge of civil war. Lovely town, great clubs and cool beach. 2. Madrid - Hot, great food, brilliant evening atmosphere 3. Copenhagen - Surprisingly good destination with the Mrs, clean and good food but not cheap 4. Gothenburg - Love Sweden, nice city, expensive 5. Paris - Huge and lots to do and see 6. Budapest - Didnt help that the hotel was in Pest and the castle was mostly closed as they were filming 'I Spy'. Warm but surprisingly the town was pretty dead for the weekend and not cheap. Prague was definitely better.

Haha ok. In that case for a weekend, especially if taking the family I'd go with Oslo. |

Of the ones I have been too:
Geneva - mega expensive, and a bit dull but has some night life and a big lake. Brilliant if you like banks and watches. Munich - very liveable city, plenty of green, great beer, excellent opera and classical music, did I mention great beer, safest city on the planet to be drunk in, but the Bavarians are the most arrogant of Germans and despite it being a city have a village mentality Paris - everyone knows Paris, and despite the Parisians and the cliches it is simply magnificent and still romantic as can be Zurich - see Geneva but more Germanic - and with heroin Budapest - some say cracking nightlife, but I say pretty seedy. Good baths Madrid - great food, great night life, great Art, great football, what’s not to like Naples fabulously chaotic, good clothes shopping (without Milan prices) best pizza in the world, Vienna - a beautiful city, but a little dull Warsaw - I have a big soft spot for Warsaw, had some memorable times, including one of the greatest week-ends of my life in the city. The wall had just come down and we brought fear and loathing to the Warsaw in a black cab, in all its halucenogenic glory. Some stunning women there too Athens - 'tis hot on summer Istanbul – Much to my surprise I loved Istanbul – amazing history, real sense of being a crossroads of the world fro centuries, excellent shopping, the Grand bazaar is grand, some astonishing building, and allsorts of nightlife and day life and locals are super friendly Tirana – never been would like to go So while I have probably had the best times in Warsaw I think was individual to me. Were I chose three I would probably recommend to others 1) Madrid – all round winner 2) Istanbul – really interesting place 3) Paris – food, art and romance

Of those two, a lot depends if its stag or family hol... Athens for a boys weekend, Istanbul is a more reserved family destination.

I'd prefer to spend my money saved on the free flights on a kick ass car or top notch hotel. Also, I am a sucker for club class (even short haul in Europe) so I really don't want to pay those prices. Wonderful flight back from Milan last night, buckets of Champagne, Cognac, free Olympic swag. Not going to pay though.

Madrid is full of pickpockets, beggars and con artists. Avoid like the plague. Paris is full of Parisians who make New Yorkers seem friendly and caring. Even the rest of the French find them rude. Loved Istanbul great clash of cultures that mix and work. Fascinating place with great people. Cheap Gothenburg because the swedes just make you feel so welcome and there is some beautiful places on the west coast just outside. Medium Very kid friendly with the liseburg amusement park. Great fresh seafood. Oslo in winter as you an access ski slopes, toboggan runs just outside the city and the city is very accessible. Expensive.
