Looks like no vote by Parliament on the common market as that would be second guessing the referendum vote...

May: No vote on Brexit for MPs
Theresa May has said MPs will not be given a vote on Brexit because it would be "unacceptable" to "second guess" the British people.
The Prime Minister's spokesman said it was "absolutely necessary" for MPs to scrutinise the "process" of leaving the EU but that MPs should not be given a vote.
He said: "Parliament is of course going to debate and scrutinise that process as it goes on. That is absolutely necessary and the right thing to do.
"But, having a second vote, or a vote to second-guess the will of the British people is not an acceptable way forward."

Theresa May sort of opened negotiations with the EU today in her speech in Denmark by guaranteeing right to stay for EU citizens as long as same guarantee given to Brits abroad.

Someone ought to tell her that the vast majority will have right to stay anyway irrespective of negotiations - something her own Home Office (of which she was head of for many a year) told everyone 3 days ago.

So she is planning just to second guess it herself with some input from the Cabinet?

She's going to practice exercising the new found seizing of control and sovereignty Parliament has.

Yeah saw she is over here today.

You mention the vast majority (no idea on numbers) have the right to stay but that is based on having obtained permanent residence after living in their European country for a period of 5 years or more, but many of us have only recently moved country and hence the concern, especially with this hard brexit rhetoric. There could be some really bad scenarios played out for many families if the right to stay guarantee is not agreed on.

5 in 6 is the estimate from the home office - but then again as they haven't a clue who came in and when you can probably extend it to everyone - hence the inevitable 'amnesty'

Might be the case for EU nationals in the UK, but in Germany, for instance, residents must be registered, incl. reregistering when we move home. So here they know full well who's here (from the EU at least!).

I hope bilateral agreements on accrued pensions are soon on the agenda. Until this is clarified, I feel moving back to the UK, or to another EU state as a Brit, is a bit risky right now, in terms of what happens to cross-border pension payments.

N Ireland really is a headache. No border means goods can move in and out of the eu/U.K Without custom checks - unacceptable. Put a border up with a load of customs officials in uniform and you break the Good Friday agreement - unnaceptable. The peace process is still fragile but I cannot fathom how this can be sorted without upsetting the process.

Excellent. So a vaguely worded YES/NO simple vote, has left the actual detail to the discretion of the cabinet?

You have an identify number in Spain too. It is good that we are offering all those here rights to stay. The EU has no excuse not to reciprocate immediately.

If either the UK or EU did not offer that quickly it would be simply spiteful. Even the most rabid EU worshippers or Brexiters should recognise that.

Didn't the remainers warn everyone that if we voted to leave the EU then we might lose access to the single market? The electorate listened and decided to vote leave. Why now do the same remainers wish to interfere in the will of the people?

Because the brexiters told us project fear were making stuff up. They told us that they still wanted to sell us cars cheese and prosecco and we would be able to work and live where we wanted. If you listened carefully some - like Hannan - told us we would stay in the single market.

Because countries who are not members of the EU have negotiated access to the single market. Therefore its not an issue of interefering with the will of the people. Unless of course a hive mind mentality is operating?

It would be interesting to know if behind the scenes there is any research being done into the attitudes of voters towards what they would accept. Away from Brexit May has said a few things that could well have influenced the vote. Obviously we don't yet know whether she will achieve them but if she can deliver on extending prosperity away from a few places, deliver on housebuilding, investing on transport in the regions and actually develop an industrial strategy focussing on manufacturing and energy then that goes along way to satisfying the concerns of a lot of people. Skills training, skills training and skills training.

Edit to my last post...it is raining outside quite hard so you can see why people would rather be in nice warm offices rather than putting up scaffolding poles or laying roof tiles.
