So last night there was one game and they had a premier league referee looking at VAR so what happens in future if say all Premier and Championship matches have VAR what referees will be available to be VAR as that could need an additional 22 referees so would the 1st and 2nd divisions then suffer with poorer refs

I’m not sure that’s a great idea. Most of them seem to be employed by TV channels and spend their time opining how much Wilf dives.

Can you just imagine if it did (although totally inconclusive that it did) brush his arm last night and the VAR never bothered with the angle? The trial would have been dead before it started. They would have been pleading with Glenn to deny it, and deny it - just to save face. Agree that nobody is happy with it in A-League.

Th way I saw it, Murray is pulling his arm away? So even if it did hit his arm it wouldn't be deliberate.

It’s shite so far. Ref re looked at a penalty decision. Victor mo doesn’t touch the arsenal player and it’s a clear dive yet the VAR does nothing! Should be a yellow. Also there was an incident were Chambers pushed over A Chelsea defender, clear foul on the Chelsea player, the VAR did nothing then aswell!

Maybe I’m missing the crux of the system, I’m all for assisting refs with technology. Also I’m no ref so maybe I’m wrong. |

handball doesn't have to be deliberate; nor does it require "hands not in a natural position". It's a myth, as is "contact" being the criteria for a penalty being awarded.

Great pic. Wasn't that the late pen that Johnny Williams dived for?

I think it was from Feb 2013, don't think there was a penalty - but checked and saw Stephen Dobbie scored as well as Murray - I had clean forgoten about Dobbie at all, which makes it quite scary! Edit - My memory is fading badly - you are right, it was a Murray penalty after Williams came on as a late sub - no clue if he dived! Match was in 2011, not long after the famous win at the Weeds.

Brilliant comments from Neil Warnock this morning In response to Marcus Alonso saying he’s not sure whether VAR’s a good thing.
Neil said, ‘Of course he’s not, he plays for one of the big clubs.’ He then went on to say how the big clubs will suffer with this new technology because they more often than not got the benefit of the doubt their way.

Conceptually it's a good idea. Practically the powers that be seem to be making a balls of it.
