Stevenage 24 July
Anyone going? New ground for me so would be interested in recommendations re pubs. Wondering whether as it says "Club XI" if that means some first team squad members will play?

Basically the ground is out of town beside the A602 and a fair way from the station and Stevenage Town Centre.
There is a shuttle bus from the station to the ground To view the link you have to Register or Login |

Mile walk doesn't seem too bad. I wonder whether there would be shuttle buses from the station for midweek pre season friendly against a club XI? I doubt it.

It’s a good 25 min walk from the station. Plenty of regular buses run from the station or the nearby bus station. Look for one that’s going to Roaring Meg retail park or Broadhall Way.

Lower league clubs fans turn out to see their team as much as who they are playing, there was a fair number at Bromley last night for example, even though it was mainly 18 year olds playing for Palace. We're going by car, seem to remember it is right by the A1(M), and there is a Harvester within very close walking distance for pre match grub

Yep. The Harvester is on the retail park. There’s also a Burger King and a Pizza Hut on the same park nearer the ground. Not sure if they relax the parking restrictions in the evening though.

The area around the ground is as dull as dishwater with few options for a pre game drink.
If you're in a group I'd recommend turning left out of the station & heading towards Stevenage old town, @ 10 minutes walk away, where you'll find a few decent pubs and places to eat followed by a 5 minute taxi ride to the ground.

Old town is where it's at. New town is where it's not.
Won't be busy on a Tuesday mind.

May just go to this one after a great day out in Oxford. Stevenage FC say it's a mile walk from the station and god knows I need the exercise! Stevenage are selling away tickets on their website at To view the link you have to Register or Login
Tickets are collection at Stevenage FC box office. Last edited by LN1; 23-07-2018 at 01:18 AM. |

I shall probably wander along, even if it is a club XI

Going by the line-up for the Bromley game last week, you won't get to see any first teamers.
