No trains running to Watford
Can’t find any services at all running. Not even any sign of bus replacement services. Heaven knows how fans not driving are supposed to get there. Anyone got any ideas, from central London?

Use the Metropolitan line to Watford. Did this for the Boxing Day match a couple of seasons ago. Easy but no pubs en route.

Cycle along the Grand Union Canal from Brentford. Or maybe walk the London Loop from Keston.

The Metropolitan line looks like the only option, allbeit a trek. Cheers 7ps.

There is a rail replacement from Harrow and Wealdstone but it definitely seems easier and slightly quicker to use the Metropolitan Line

Doesn't look like the met line is going there either - tfl is saying change at Rickmansworth for a half hour bus journey.

I just searched on TfL site and it’s showing there’s a service to Watford on the met line that day

Watford Met is a mile from the away end. It’s a comparable distance from Thornton Heath station to the top of the Holmesdale Road hill. Not the longest trek I’ve seen. It’s less of a distance than Southampton Central to St Mary’s, Burnley Manchester Road to Turf Moor, or Highbury & Islington to the Emirates. Unless you’re talking about from decent pubs, then you’re absolutely right. |

Victoria shut all day as well.

Victoria is not shut! Southeastern services are mostly redirected to Blackfriars but Victoria will be open for Southern services.

Walking from the Metropolitan Line to Vicarage Road isn't an issue, there are just no pubs en route.
For last seasons match when this also happened (the Overground Line to Watford High Street was closed) I got into Baker Street had lunch and a quick couple before jumping back onto the Met. Line

Train to St Albans from Croydon then a train from St Albans to Watford

You have to get from St Albans City to St Albans Abbey station about a mile away to do that. You're better off using the Metropolitan line.

The Metropolitan line trains to watford start from Baker Street... the Amersham/Chesham trains run from Aldgate, so will require a change on route if boarding at Farringdon/Kings Cross etc. Only every 15 mins

Anyone not looking forward to 20-25 minute walk from Watford (Met) station on Sunday and still wants to get to Watford High street or Junction mainline stations via the bus replacement service there is an alternative.
National Rail is advising passengers to go tube to Stanmore (jubilee line) station and pick up a bus replacement from there to Watford Junction. These buses appear to be half hourly on the National Rail site. There is also a No 142 Brent Cross to Watford service bus that calls at Stanmore station every 10- 15 minutes on Sundays. Earlier in its journey it calls at Edgware (Northern Line) station and may be an alternative to pick it up there and get a seat rather than the scrum that Stanmore is likely going to be. Obviously there will be the £1.50 charge compared to the rail buses and many stops en-route but given the Redhill chaos may be a way to avoid the queuing? |
