I mean he’s one of the top 3 keepers in the world and he’s playing for a team that, although are very good, are probaby not going to win titles or champions leagues, so there must always be speculation linking him everywhere.

They’ve played two of the last four finals, and won the League three years back. He made his name there. I’d be very surprised if he leaves before Simeone does.

They’ve defied the odds to be that successful recently. Realistically though, it’s difficult to see Atleti winning titles in the next few seasons (2013 was their first in 20 odd years, wasn’t it?) and I wouldn’t back them to win a champions league ahead of Real, Barca, Bayern, or Man City and PSG in the coming years. It’s not impossible, but it’s improbable. No idea if Oblak would want to go or not, but speculation linking him away is understandable.

I'm pretty sure he'll be off too. Griezmann may be off too according to rumours over here. An unhappy Neymar would go to Real Madrid for about 300m to be replaced at PSG by Griezmann for about 100m leaving PSG with around 200m to play with or sort out their "Fair Play" business!

I think people outside Madrid dont really understand Atletico. I guess there is a possibility Griezmann might go. I dont see Oblak or any other first team player going. Costa was trying to get back almost as soon as he left. Its a special club.

Its all guesswork at this time as to Guaita coming or staying, even the update by Dom Fifield is all hearsay. But we do have to be aware of the possibility he may Not join and alternatives are simply being discussed on here.

Dom's tweet makes me feel a lot happier. If there was any chance that the keeper had changed his mind he could I am sure make it untenable for us still but with the pre contract in place it makes it a big deal for any other club or the player himself. Mandanda appeared to decide he wanted out (for whatever reason) and we just had an expensive reserve but hopefully he will arrive and deliver the goods.

I just can’t see him choosing to warm a bench when he’s peaking as a player. We’d be signing him for first choice.

I agree. If the while staying in Madrid was an issue he wouldn't have agreed to the deal in the first place. He is too good to sit on the bench whether they push for trophies or not.

And I’m not sure Atleti are prepared to pay their reserve goalie what we’re willing to pay our first choice.

Seems like this is all dependent on if Atletico will likely sell their no.1 keeper. I guess only then would they pay enough in wages to Guaita for him to want out of his Palace contract, and for Atletico to pay any compensation to Palace.

Seems also like Jan Oblak is sought after, but he signed a new Atletico contract recently meaning whoever would sign him would need to pay a high fee and high wages. Unlikely that such a deal would happen early in the window imo.

Key dates will be 1.July and whenever Guaita must report to for the first day of pre-season.

It's important that Palace get another viable Prem keeper under contract early in the window lest we start the season with the window still open and Guaita getting cold feet.

This probably makes it more likely that Hennessey will be offered a deal to stay, which may not be so bad with Kiely staying around as he has apparently helped.

I imagine that the Contract kicks in on the 1st July. So if he ain't here then, we know something is up.

Would like to see Butland here if Stoke go down and Guaita's move doesn't happen. He's not had the best of seasons but I still think he is very decent keeper.

or Forster at Southampton.

This Guaita move sounds like another Mandanda in the making, good keeper but no experience of living abroad and can he communicate with this defence in English?

Let's give him a chance before tarring him with the Mandanda brush.

Mandanda didn't want to come to Palace full stop did he? It sounded like Guiata was a bit annoyed by Getafe in January for getting in the way of the move. Sure he may prefer Atletico Madrid, but that doesn't mean he'll throw a hissy fit if he ends up here. Hopefully.

Most of the phrases a goalie needs are universal, particularly 'get out' or 'keeper'.

Or words to that effect...probably ending in "off"
