I assume the fans were complaining about the owners rather than the players, so I get the chanting at the directors box but why confront the players?

I do get their frustration about the stadium and owners though. It's an athletics stadium, it's not theirs. It is Orient's territory not theirs. The move was badly handled and tourists were given priority over genuine fans. The view of the pitch and atmospherics are shit. More than anything the vibrating battery boys pushed through this move, ripping off the government and council simply to enrich themselves.

Supporting a football club is irrational, but there is certainly a ritual involved, and it can almost be spiritual. A great club has an old and deep soul.

The owners shat all over that for greed. You expect that from the Glazers, but dildo 1 and dildo 2 portray themselves as fans. Proper east end boys made good.

If I was a west ham fan I'd be gutted. The soul has been ripped out of the club, it's just an empty carcass. Imagine going to that ground every home game full of hope then you walk in and it's a lifeless ghost town.

Thank god we have Selhurst, it may be old and a bit rough round the edges but it's ours and it's home.

Nothing is going to happen, is it? They'll continue to play at the Olympic Stadium, the supporters will galvanise around the team despite the off-field shenanigans (see Man Utd & Glazers - how many green & yellow scarves are seen at Old Trafford these days), they'll stay up despite getting dicked over by Soton (which ultimately causes our relegation) and everyone will be happy for a while.

Except us.

I couldn't agree more.

As you say, more or less, supporting a football club is a peculiar past time. It is learned and at times very tribal.

I don't believe individual players or the Team are the focus of the Fans' show of frustration but in a public show of dissatisfaction, during a match which will attract the widest publicity, the players are in the way of flak.

That word 'irrational' is apt.

However this all has to be seen in the light of public disorder, public safety (including the safety of players and officials) all with the organisation of those involved using social media.

If we look at the pictures of Noble physically grappling with a protesting fan it doesn't take much to imagine what else could have occurred had say the fan fought back or if there had been more than one intruder. It is not insignificant to hear Noble talk about protecting himself. If stuff like this is repeated it won't take much to see it escalate to players and match officials involved in fights with protesting fans.

There is also the issue of the Owners of the Club being asked to leave for their own safety and to help quell the protesters.

Of course much of this could die down if West Ham's results pick up. Such is the way with Football.

The problem is that as soon as the Team's fortunes decline again, the spectre of disturbance will return. The root problem is the sense of belonging the West Ham's fans had at Upton Park has gone and needs to be recovered.
I can't see it being a possibility - how many season ticket holders and seats have been sold for games. They would not be able to fulfill that.

Well possibly not but if there is serious disorder which the Police cannot contain, public safety will always trump the administrative arrangements for managing a football match.

There were four pitch intrusions. Fortunately not mass intrusions. There were physical confrontations between players and the intruders which would have almost certainly have been heated. There was abuse directed by crowds towards the Owners who may have had family members with them. All of this witnessed by the rest of the crowd in the stadium and tv audience.

It will be a big call by the authorities to take no action. Either way some contingency, including improved security will be in place when West Ham next play there.

Last year they got done for serious tax issues that could/should have been a points deduction

Now this. Surely this is three strikes. If they avoid a points deduction the FA should face an investigation into corruption or something. They’ve taken the piss repeatedly and are happy to pay fines tiny in comparison to what they gained with the crime
Don't forget the recent doping swerve.

Losing 4-1 to Swansea then 3-0 to Burnley? The players deserve criticism too. Let's remember the Sunderland game last year when just before half time our fans gave the Palace players full barrol and also the argument at the end of Stoke away between the fans and Damo.

Getting a new stadium does not guarantee success. The owners are really horrible people as said by dear old Simon calling them the dildo brothers. Moyes recent few years are one of don’t touch with a bargepole. Plummeting down the table back to the championship. Don’t like anything about them and rather them go than most of the other clubs

If you have ever seen the owners rollers in our car park you’d realise what horrible bastards they are with their chauffeurs staying in the cars so no one scratches them up

Happened at Lille yesterday too, the supporters attacked players after the final whistle....maybe the "win at all cost" mentality is starting to get to supporters...plus watching a bunch of over paid footballers stroll around and not perform is starting to begin a kick back against it all?

If the lunnon stadium feels crappy now imagine the atmosphere for a
mid-table-(promotion bid derailed)-championship fixture.
