Talking of communists there's a lot of people who would pay good money to see Trump go head-to-head with Putin.

Well they can buy the front seats to the nuclear apocalypse that would follow as neither would back down.

Advice to work in pairs at certain times in certain areas is hardly new and may have increased since the Rigby murder. That's not remotely close to what he said. It's all right to treat it as a joke as a bit of anti mainstream politicians. This is rhetoric far too serious for that. Just put aside your little bbs persona that you don. We have Christians being slaughtered and harassed in many countries. Muslims and other minority groups in India face terror every day . We seriously want to support some bloke happy to do that to religions he has an issue with, rather than the individuals?

That is a new thing. I have not defended Trumps remarks and even I found them to be a tad OTT but at least you know where the man stands on this. You need to start getting used to the fact that he stands a good chance of becoming the next US President. And then I suspect that you soc.libs might start getting what you wish for i.e a US that starts to withdraw from the international stage and let the world sort itself out. Because that is what Trump will do. I get the impression that most Americans are heartedly sick of sending their young people to die in foreign wars that represent absolutely zero threat to their own way of life so you will all have something in common with them. Trump understands that. And that is what he promises them. Less of their young people coming home in body bags. It patently will not work to ban all Muslims from coming into the US for a whole host of reasons although I would assume that if Trump were to become US President then no right thinking Muslim would want to move to the country anyway so no harm done really. And maybe the world might be a better place if Muslims are encouraged to stay in their own countries and sort out their own domestic messes. Of course, if you want even more US intervention then cheer along that nice Hillary because she did so well in terms of Libya and so on. But for some reason you soc.libs don't seem to care about that place so much which has always been a puzzle to me. Because, when all is said and done, that has been a far bigger **** up than either Afghanistan or Iraq and is on Europes door step. But for some reason almost silence on it. |

I think these latest comments support the idea that he's taking the piss and has no intention or chance of being president. If, however, I'm wrong and he gets elected, then the country truly will have the president that it deserves. |

I get that but what are the alternatives ? Hillary ? That is the scary thing. A Trump or a Clinton to lead the most powerful nation in the world. Talk about caught between a rock and a hard place. |

Trump is a political gadfly, I am not sure Mat realises that as little as 6 years ago he was a Democrat and pro Right to Chose and Pro Gun Control, two issues that such a volte face on suggests only a deep seated desire to play the audience rather that deep seated beliefs.
He has picked up on a very tight demographic in the US, and it is little to do with interventionism as Mat has clearly missed his view on killing IS members families as an act of revenge. He is targeting the dirt poor, lowly educated white lower working class who believe everything that government does is against them. You see the same strategy in the FN in France, UKIP in the UK etc etc. Easily understood targets like migrants, people with difference of colour, sexuality, religion, even physicality such as disabilities. Never mind his deals with Muslims to build Dubai golf course or riding roughshod over poor workers in his hotels or local residents in Scotland to build his latest edifice. He is a charlatan screaming the message that will play to his demographic, with no real belief in what he is saying. Even if he gets the nomination, now highly unlikely, he has almost zero chance of election as he has alienated so many sections of the voters. But, he is symptomatic of the new political landscape, not just in America but increasingly in Europe. Doubtless Mat will love it, but a lot of people will be very disturbed by the movement of politics to the edges of left and right and away from the broad centre that has held since WW2, and which brought a degree of global peace, if not a perfect one, and at least a degree of improving life for all rather than just a wealthy elite.

Mat in all his pro Trump excitement has forgotten that nominations are not won by opinion polls but rather by the party convention where i think the winner normally has the largest number of baloons.

This is getting quite close to 100,000 now, at which point it should get debated in parliament. I don't really believe in banning people for things they say - it doesn't tally with freedom of speech. Even so, there's no denying that Trump is an undesirable alien. Last edited by EdMan; 09-12-2015 at 01:08 PM. |

lol - let's ban someone we don't agree with to show how tolerant we are.
Epic trolling from Trump, though.

I mean seriously how do you test for someone's religion, if they don't attest to having one. Can you lose your religion for a day and then find it again? The whole thing is absurd, but I guess the fact we are discussing it is exactly what the Trumpette wants
