Worst own goal
What is the worst own goal you ever seen at Palace. I remeber Jeff Hopkin bought him from Fulham for about £250,000 or there abouts, alot of money back then. He was really highly rated and wot a donkey he was, anyway he scored an own goal from about 35-40 yards against Millwall in about 87-88 Perry suckling was in goal i think,he could not of chipped him better if he tried a thousand times.

Richard Shaw backpass at Southampton (90-91?) that rolled past Nigel Martyn into the net, right in front of the Palace fans!

If by the worst own goal you mean one taht a striker would have been proud of the contest is won by Jamie Pollock hands down.
Although not while at Palace his own goal that sent Man City down was exquisite! Chipping 2 players before lobbing his own keeper if i remember it rightly! As a Palace own goal it would be hard to omit Richard Shaw from a shortlist, mind you he has proved us with more than most. But his curling diving header past Martyn from about 20-25 yards i remember. |

Richard Shaw agfainst Chelsea in the 92/93 campaign. 4 minutes into the game a harmless cross from Fleck and Shaw swept it into his own net with no one around him.

Anyone remember Tony Mowbray scoring FOR us when we were playing Ipswich about 2-3 years back? Long ball in and he almost overhead kicked it over his keeper from 20 yards and into the net. Think I may have a video of it knocking around somewhere...

Gareth Davies, thundering header against Norwich, sometime in the mid-90s, the same day Millwall went down.

Leif Andersen's arse-over-tit effort in the Cup vs Leeds was another one. I've seen better, but Leif managed to fool us all with that one!

Stop knocking Jeff Hopkin, he is a Palace legend in my eyes. Favourite OG, Richard Shaw again, header at home to Reading any striker would have been proud of that. Didn't Brighton chip in with an OG this season in the 5-0?
Seem to remember Dowie scoring a beauty whilst at West Ham, possibly against Wrexham in The Cup(?).

I remember Ian Evans scoring one in the last minute to lose us a game in about 76 ... I can't remember the opposition. It was a home match very early in the season. It was a kind of speciality for him as I recall him scoring the only goal of the game on his debut for Wales around the same time ... unfortunately it was for Scotland.

My old work mate was a Spurs fan and he always reminded me of Gary O'Reilly's goal when we played them in the cup and lost 4-0 at White Hart Lane.
He said ti ws a crunching volley, i always said it was an unlucky deflection.Anyone remember? |
