Changes are obviously needed as we've been poor this season. It's a very bad start given the calibre of teams we have faced. Time to ditch the failing players and also switch formation - albeit the below is very harsh on McArthur who has played well. Or we could put Meyer up to wide left, Wilf central and drop Ayew and play McArthur in midfield.

----------------------------------Hennessey----------------------------

Bissaka-----------------Tomkins------------Sakho------------------PvA

------------------Kouyate---------Luka-----------Meyer---------------

------------------Townsend--------Ayew----------Wilf-----------------

Subs
Guiata
Ward
Kelly
Schlupp
Riedewald
McArthur
Sorloth

Roys not got the balls to change it this much but using Townsend as a false 9, without Wilf our current strongest formation is IMO 352.
Both AWS and PVA are athletic enough to get up and down, switching between wingbacks and offensive wing play:

---------------------------------Hennessey--------------------------------

-----------------Ward------------Kelly------------Sakho---------------

--------AWB------------Kouyate-----------McArthur-----------PVA-------
-----------------------------------Meyer------------------------------------

----------------------Ayew----------------------Andros-------------------

This lineup is very offensive yet has height and strength at the back. Most teams would struggle against us like this.

Cfcbob that back 3 would get ripped to pieces by most PL teams.

Hennessey
AWB Tomkins/Kelly Sakho PVA
Meyer Kouyate McArthur
Townsend Sorloth Ayew

Presuming Wilf if injured. If he is back, try Ayew in the middle instead of Sorloth. Luka needs a rest while he sorts himself out and should definitely be losing the shirt ahead of McArthur based on current form. 4-3-3 definitely the better formation.

I'll be happy with any team that includes Meyer and Kouyate and excluded Benteke.

Meyer and Kouyate have to start.

The question is, who do you drop with Schlupp? McArthur or Luka?

Drop Luka and who is competent enough to take our penalties? ok he has not been at his best in a couple of games, but is still our best if not our only true midfield holding player. If we were to drop any of our players that have been off form this season then we would probably only be left with about THREE players that would warrant their places, surely if there is a player that needs to be "rested" then it's Benteke and that would be for his own benefit to take him out of the firing line.
The one i would feel sorry for dropping would be McArthur as he does not deserves it but would be purely for tactical reasons for a change in the system, yesterday showed we were far too easily exposed and gave away possession for then to counter attack, this has got to change and i feel only a 4-2-3-1 would give us a better balance.
This is what i would go with for the next game and give it a chance to bed in.

We have a hole in our midfield when we don’t play Kouyate or Meyer in a 4-4-2. The problem is, I believe Meyer to be better in the centre, but if we play him there, then we have an issue at LM. Personally, I think it’s time to revert to 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

Back line picks itself. Surely kouyate is in after saturday and how can you keep picking benteke with the same result. I also don't think you need Meyer and McArthur in the same starting line up.

Let's at least start with dropping Schlupp, bring in Meyer or Kouyate in the centre and go from there. That's easy to do. I still have faith in Roy, but it will be eroded if Schlupp starts the next one.

The likelihood of Roy making more than 3 changes from the team given his conservative nature and adversity to make any knee jerk reactions; i would say - are extremely thin, a great deal will depend on the recovery of Zaha and Tomkins who Roy naturally acknowledges are "two of our better players" - assuming they are available for selection and we dont loose any more through injuries at training or during international duty, i cannot see him also dropping Benteke for either a ghost 9 formation, as we had last year with Townsend and Wilf or a Sorloth/Ayew combo as the former is still finding his feet (literally) and the latter will take a little longer to achieve match fitness if judged by his performance Saturday. IMO Christian is certainly drinking in the last chance saloon but its too early to make the change assuming he's fit (maybe playing with Belgium if he gets game time will be good for him). We also need to bear in mind that it certainly felt we provided more aerial chances last Saturday, which would appear to be his skill set - with an emphasis on crosses across the box or towards the rear post; this is a bit like the irresistible force meets the immovable object - keep putting it in the right areas and.....(i'm not going to say it) !

There is perhaps stronger argument to replace Schlupp with Kouyate, whilst a decent LB and capable of playing as a wide left midfielder; he sometimes gets a little "game/ball" fixated and is unaware of the opposition movement around him, he struggles in a narrow midfield to cover the areas in front of his full back and provide intelligent movement further forward whereas Kouyate playing closer to Luka or McArthur would provide a little more screen with the ability to protect in front of the wider areas or drop into a central defensive role which is where we appear susceptible in recent matches, he also seemed to moved forward with great intelligence on Saturday in his cameo performance, with both is distribution and anticipation being first class...

Whats important is that we dont overreact or go into a defence mode having lost 3 games in a row, offensively we haven't looked too bad, the team has pace in AWB, Wilf, Andros and PVA so any changes need to be considered so as not to affect that potency, i also think its too simplistic to refer to Roy's current system as a straight forward 4-4-2, there is enough about this current squad (when all fit) to change position in games and "cut their cloth" in approach to what the opposition are doing - the criticism that Roy has alluded to accepting for Saturdays performance was that he failed to make certain changes early enough to have a real effect on the games outcome - he made the right subs but at the wrong time. Had he done that at the 60 mins which he mentioned or maybe better still at half time we might very well have seen us get something out of that game as Southampton were very nervous and defended very, very deep. For me players work best in teams that dont change their systems dramatically because of 1 or 2 below par performances; just look at the confusion under Mourinho or the Spurs back 4/back 3 - i think we would be better served at this time working on the areas of development within the current framework then crisis management...

Looking at Huddersfield. they picked up a creditable draw on Saturday away at Everton, by all accounts they were resilient, organised and look very strong at set pieces, corners etc, they have already had a good tonking off two of the best teams in the league so to come back with draws at goodison and against Cardiff shows some character, my thoughts are this might not be the prettiest of games for the purest, indeed if there is any doubt about Zaha's injury then i think he shouldn't start but wait for the opposition either to tire or come on if we need chase the game...

Can we sub-contract this game and get Man City to play it for us?

I take quite an interest in Huddersfield, given how local they are to me. They started off with a couple of very bad results, and then got a 0-0 draw with 10 men, but it was at home to Cardiff - and even with 11 the feeling was they didn't create anything. They have been adapting style from the high, fast paced pressing that they started life in the Premier League with to a far more defensive approach designed to be difficult to break down - and have even been playing with 5 at the back. Whether they play that way at home against us remains to be seen, but there isn't the same pressing and intensity as there was last August.

In terms of set pieces, there was a stat put up on MOTD that would suggest that the goal, rather than being good set piece work from Huddersfield was more a flaw in the way Everton (and in particular Silva) set themselves up.

Had they lost to Everton, and we had beaten Southampton, then I was expecting a home win, however as the results were different I am slightly more confident (bizarre I know). It will be a game they are looking for something from, and I would expect them to start quite quickly - however the longer we keep it level, the more likely it is that the crowd will become negative.

I don't think you can not play Wilf if he is fit, and I expect he will be, ditto with Tomkins. The back 5 effectively picks itself nowadays, and then I think you go with a three of Luka, Meyer and Kouyate (harsh on McArthur, but I suspect Meyer and McArthur would be too lightweight in a physical battle), and then a front three comprising Wilf, Andros and Ayew - the movement and pace of the three of them should cause a back 5 problems, and help pin back their full backs (which will be their main attacking threat). Also, a fully fit Benteke off the bench for half an hour would give us an option to change it up, either to chase the game or close it down if need be - whereas some of his effectiveness is lost when starting.

Man-for-man we have enough to beat Huddersfield, it just depends whether the team turns up on the day.
