The Rules :
Only 3 months to go now so time to dust off the spreadsheet, convene the stewards meetings and decide on the Rules and Regulations for 2016. If any one would like to suggest any changes feel free, but this thread is not democratic and the power hungry despot in charge will as per F1 make his own mind up. Changes also have to be easy to implement but Master Yoda has offered to mod the spreadsheet so perhaps we should consider his suggestion of "more points for being one pos out rather than the basic 2pts for being top 5." Any other suggestions welcome. 2016 GP Drivers and Teams : Blue colour indicates a confirmed 2016 contract Green indicates a confirmed/current Test Driver for the team Magenta indicates we don't know if they will be taking part. One question - if I offered to look at the spreadsheet and code the proposed change for you would you consider it?

McLaren have recruited former Volkswagen motorsport boss Jost Capito as the new overall head of their Formula 1 programme. The German, 57, will be appointed chief executive officer of McLaren Racing, reporting to chairman Ron Dennis. Capito will join at an unspecified date to be agreed between McLaren and VW.
Jonathan Neale, who had been in that role following the sacking of Martin Whitmarsh in early 2014, has been moved out of the racing department. Neale will be chief operating officer of the McLaren Technology Group. Other point of interest is that Capito has been running the VW Rally team for the past few years and has made them unbeatable having previously done the same job for Ford. Great news for McLaren.

From the BBC
Manor have signed former Ferrari chief designer Nikolas Tombazis as chief aerodynamicist. Tombazis, sacked by Ferrari after nine years following their winless 2014 season, joins the back-of-the-grid team with immediate effect. It is the latest in a series of changes as Manor try to improve their form. The team finished last in 2015 but have secured Mercedes engines and recruited Dave Ryan, who spent 30 years at McLaren, as racing director. Manor technical director John McQuilliam said Tombazis would "provide us with the strength to design and develop consistently competitive racing cars to help steer us towards our long-term ambitions". Manor are still without a team principal following the resignation, at the end of last season, of founder John Booth and Graeme Lowdon, who was the team's president and sporting director. The team have yet to announce any drivers for 2016. Indonesian GP2 driver Rio Haryanto has been linked to the team and is reported to have secured £10m in backing from the Indonesian government.Among the other contenders are former McLaren driver Kevin Magnussen, who is also in the frame to replace Pastor Maldonado at Renault, and Manor's 2015 drivers - Englishman Will Stevens, American Alexander Rossi and Spaniard Roberto Merhi.

Hi MasterYoda, thanks for the offer and of course I would consider it assuming we decide to change any of the rules, points etc. Ridcully, my predecessor as the person who runs this thread and who created the original spread sheet is still around so we would have to negotiate a transfer fee during the window.

I'm fairly certain it wouldn't be overly tricky to say add say 3 to the score if the position was only one out - so giving 5 instead of 2. If anything in this era of mercedes dominance it might help add a new dynamic.

From the BBC:
Formula 1 bosses have agreed to reduce the cost of engines for customer teams. Two days of talks have resulted in a deal to cut prices as well as ensure the whole grid is supplied, sources at governing body the FIA said. In return for lower prices, it was agreed F1 would stick with the existing V6 turbo hybrid engines until at least 2020. Details are still being finalised, with the intention for the new regulations to come into force in 2018. Four engine manufactures - Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault and Honda - supply the power units for the 11 teams on the grid. The lower price at which engines will be sold in the future has not been made public at this stage. In a further measure to help reduce costs, it has been agreed that drivers will be limited to three gearboxes per season - down from the current limit of five. Surely that gearbox rule is going to result in even more grid penalties?

BBC report:
Germany's Pascal Wehrlein is to drive for the Manor team in 2016. The 21-year-old, who was the reserve driver for Mercedes in 2015, takes the first of two vacant Manor seats. Wehrlein won the DTM German Touring Car Championship in 2015 and has experience of driving F1 cars in testing. "Pascal is a sharp driver with a very promising future," said Manor boss Stephen Fitzpatrick. "We've chosen a driver with the talent and hunger to match our ambitions." Wehrlein, who has a deal with Manor for the entire season, said: "Manor Racing is a great place for me to start my F1 racing career. I'm very pleased to be here. It's a small and totally focused team and I soon hope to know everyone."
