All politicians making spending promises should provide details of how they will fund it.

"Cutting red tape" and "efficiency savings" seem to be popular ways to raise unlimited sums.

It's always amazing the previous government didn't think of it.

"efficiency savings" = redundancies.

How I hate that tautology.

Didn't McDonnell say on Monday that he was going to employ more in HMRC in that dept (after all the Tories pared that dept back to the bare minimum)?

Good speech actually, well received and covered all the essential issues that people wanted to hear, including Brexit issues including immigration.
It will have been what UKIP wanted to hear?

Jeremy Corbyn Leadership Challenge. Split thread

I feel sorry for serious Labour politicians and members. They now have to watch their party get destroyed at a General Election in 5 years time before trying to re-build from an impossible position knowing that they won't be in power for at least 10 years.

How does that enable them to serve their 'people'?

IMH experience it means lots of consultants are hired, mission creep, takes longer than expected and over budget. In the private sector as well as public.

Truly shocking party political broadcast by Labour tonight. It looked and sounded like it had been made by a load of 6th form politics students. Utter drivel that would only appeal to small minority of the electorate. It is like they really want to destroy the party and make them unelectable for generations. Really sad for UK politics where the only real opposition is a party that can only get 50 seats maximum and represent only part of the U.K. The SNP.

It's not that easy, for instance I used to work for a company in the UK that purchased equipment from the European manufacturing parent. In the 70's the European factory sold to the UK company at cost and presumably paid no tax, the UK company made a profit on selling it and paid tax. Then one day it changed the parent sold to the UK sub at a profit and paid tax in their country and the UK sub sold at cost.

That was in the 80's they are far more sophisticated now, license's etc, yeah more blokes at the HMRC will solve it. As annoying as they are catching a few Delboy's won't affect your taxation, its the multinationals and their local jobs we have to dance with.

I'm sure Alderhorst could give more impenetrable examples.

The Tory attack dossier which they will have ready for their troops to blurt out at every opportunity in 2020 will finish Jeremy. It is a shame, I could imagine Corbyn being Secretary of state for Health in a centre left Labour Government somewhere where he could do some good but just as he and his neo-communist supporters dream about power my thought was also a dream and like theirs will never come true, never mind.
