Steve please rip out the seats and put in benches ...

It's obvious we have problems in the lower holmesdale .... Fans standing up and some sitting down.
Quickly replacing individual seats with long benches with no seat numbers would instantly mean fans could turn up early to form a nucleus of a singing area.
This would inject new life into the stand with youngsters able to quickly join into the singing area and fans to a naturally move out a little as they get older, if they wanted.
First come first serve for the best seats behind the goal, it's a choice you can make every week.
A cheap fast fix that could be put in place within weeks!
I freely admit I have no clue if we allowed bench sitting or if the grounds safety certificate would be affected?
Just trying to get a feel if such a move would be supported by the fan base on here?

Not sure people would buy an ST if seating was a Southern Rail type lottery

Standing room only is more popular at football than on a train you would admit?
But obviously we would only sell the number of tickets that could sit in the ground and they would all be season tickets still.....it sorts it.

Yes, more popular for sure. The poor sods who pay thousands of pounds a year for the privilege of standing every day for 90 mins probably aren't that keen.

So, you're suggesting only season ticket holders can attend or the benched areas would be season ticket only? Am a bit lost

Pretty sure free for all benches is a disaster waiting to happen. The safe standing proposal is a good one and hopefully the government can approve it ASAP.

No ... I'm only mentioning bench seating because if you allow the same number of season ticket holders to sit where they want first come first serve, single seats will remain dotted around the stand.
So bench seating with backs would allow for a squeeze along full capacity.
And yes I'm advocating sit where you want but only for the season tickets already in the stand .... Or members if availability is there.

No allocated seating helps no one except a select few. It punishes those who can't get in on time. It can split up families or groups of mates who want to enjoy the game with each other.

It's a non starter whichever way you look at it.

I vaguely recall Man City away was unreserved seating on benches behind the goal at Maine Road?

But it gives us a singing section and was always the away seating plan before we came up.
It would work fine for one area of our ground.

If anything it would enable groups to sit together . It would also encourage fans to enter the ground earlier.

We should trial this for a season, but in your row only.
