Bring in your north America idea of stopping the clock every 10 seconds then I might as well kiss my season ticket goodbye as I'd be leaving at half time. Thats what I'm dreading.
VAR can't come quick enough then.

Another reason I’m not a fan of video refs. Football must be the sport that flows the most out of anything out there - add it’s basic simplicity and it’s no surprise that it’s also the most popular game in the world.

When you start making the game more stop/start, it will massively dent momentum and atmosphere, and as a result make the game less exciting. From a selfish point of view, I also agree that I don’t really want to hang about at Selhurst past 17:00. I want to go home after 2 hours. Not spend more time than I have to.

Only pulling your leg. You make a valid point. I have heard it said that var only affects one in three games. However you just know that with palace that figure will be much higher.

In the last trial - England v Brazil, it wasn't used at all ... no contentious decisions at all.
On average it will be called upon once or twice a game..... adding about 2-3 minutes to the game.

Football is dead:

Referee: Andre Marriner
Assistants: Scott Ledger, Richard West
Fourth official: Graham Scott
Video Assistant Referee: Neil Swarbrick
Additional Video Assistant Referee: Peter Kirkup

6 officials. What's next? Split game into quarters? Specialist kicking teams for corners, pens and free kicks? Roll on the Big Global League and the top 6 can bugger off to Shaghai, Dubai, Delhi, Kazakhstan and rest

I wouldn't mind us having a specialist kicking team for penalties, free kicks or corners. Sounds a great idea.

Surely this is some mistake - managers never see these incidents so how will they ever be able to refer them? Haven't you seen the countless post match interviews where they have been asked their opinion and not been able to provide one?!

So a cross comes in, Murray handles to ball in, but the ref gives the goal. The VAR team tell him it's a clear handball, he goes over to check and it is indeed a handball, but he sees Dunk being pushed by Benteke in the background. Does he give a penalty?

Which offence happened first? Surely that's key.

Think the clamour for VAR is going to become deafening. With each week of Prem matches will come the inevitable three or four contentious decisions which the media will respond with, ‘Well if VAR was in use that would’nt have been judged incorrectly.’

VAR will be in place by the start of next season I’m sure.

Its funny though isnt it, even with it, you and I saw it differently after several replays. I was sure it had just clipped his knee and not his arm, but i bet from the other angle it would have looked like handball. The lines for offside we saw afterwards for offside were interesting though. That looked like a good improvement. Inept refs and linos could be embarrassed several times a match if the video ref isnt bent in favour of his crap colleague.

I thought the trial was successful, in as much as there was doubt over Glenn had armed the ball into the net. It was a critical point in the match and play had stopped in the natural scheme of events.
OK, the replays I saw were inconclusive over whether GM armed the ball into the net, but with perhaps a few more cameras around the goal mouth, they could soon sort out issues like this. That's the whole point of having a trial.

I hears a referee on the radio this morning, saying he had been part of the development team. He knows he had given some dodgy decisions in his career, but the VAR is there to help eliminate these. He used the phrase something like "minimum intervention, maximum benefit". It's only for use in biggie decisions

Having watched it this morning I clearly see the slight touch off Murray’s knee. I was concentrating too much on his arm last night! Still think the ball may have brushed his arm, but nevertheless, the fact it was inconclusive meant it was the right thing for VAR not to come into play.

I’ve got to say, on first experience, think this VAR system is brilliant and really well thought out by the officials that devised it. I really think now it has been seen in play, fans and media will be screaming for it every week. They might have to bring it in before the end of the season.

Yeah perhaps it did very slightly brush his arm very slightly afterwards but annoyingly not enough to alter the trajectory of the ball, which might have gone in our favour. Think it's a work in progress with not enough angles but wish it had been trialled for the forest v arsenal game instead.
